Pour of the Week: Exilé Rosé Pétillant 🍷
The way in which we had to beg, steal, and borrow to get this into our by the glass rotation 🤪 but we felt she was worth the sacrifice 🫶🏻
This week’s Pour of the Week is Exilé Rosé Pétillant from Loire Valley producers Lise & Bertrand Jousset—a naturally sparkling rosé made in the traditional pétillant naturel (pét-nat) method.
Unlike Champagne, which undergoes a second fermentation in bottle, pét-nat is bottled before primary fermentation is complete. The remaining yeast and natural grape sugars finish fermenting in the bottle, creating carbonation naturally and preserving the wine’s fresh fruit character and energy.
The Joussets are known for minimal-intervention winemaking and expressive Loire Valley wines, and Exilé is a great example of that philosophy. Expect aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, watermelon rind, pink grapefruit, and rose petals, supported by bright acidity and a delicate, persistent mousse. The wine is dry but fruit-driven, with a texture that feels lively and slightly creamy from time spent on the lees.
Wines like this don’t often make it onto a by-the-glass list. Small-production pét-nats from respected producers are typically something you only find by the bottle, so we’re excited to be able to share this one by the glass and introduce you to this fascinating style of wine.
