Applecore General Store offers Michigan made art, gifts, home goods, artisanal food products, and accessories that celebrate the art and craft of the Great Lakes State. Housed in a 120-year-old farmhouse on the M-134 Pure Michigan Byway, the shop opened in December of 2016, and is the retail home of Les Cheneaux-made Cedar Shore Soaps, as well as products from 100 local and Michigan makers. ays, Cedar Shore Soaps, spa salts, and bug spray are handmade here in Les Cheneaux, with all natural, skin-loving ingredients. Other Applecore offerings include candles, stickers, knit hats and mittens, fiber art, art prints, ceramics, natural body care products, up-cycled wool goods, jams, meat & bbq seasonings, mustard, snacks and candies, maple products, wood furnishings and woodcrafts, handmade baskets, artisan glass, stuffed toys, baby sweaters and hats, shippable gift boxes, and much more.

To the person who christened Applecore General Store with its first new hidden rock of 2026: thank you!! And, thanks for selecting such a great spot.

I'm so glad this trend is still a thing. Sometimes, it really does make someone's day to find one of these at a time you didn't even know you needed to find one.

My favorite times are when I'm surprised by a silly rock at the end of a really long day, see words of encouragement like "you're a rockstar" on a rock in the park, or encounter smiling cartoon character rocks at the post office when it's dark out and I'm checking the mail at 1 am and feel like the last person left on earth. The rocks make me feel a little less alone.

And from the excited squeals and chatter I hear from kids who find the rocks outside, I know these rocks bring unexpected joy to others, too.

So, whoever out there is still doing this, thank you, and please keep on rocking! You're making the world a more wondrous place with your tiny works of art.
