Attention authors. I recently received a scam email from someone pretending to be a commissioning editor for Macmillian publishing. I contacted the publisher and learned this is a far-reaching scam. Here's a link to the details:

It has come to our attention that third parties continue to target authors in schemes that involved the fraudulent use of Macmillan Publishers’ company and imprint names.

Some context: Although this best-seller list is impressive, the apparent popularity of Elevation Press of Colorado's new novel ONCE UPON A TIME... is being driven by a free eBook promotion. By midnight May 1, more than 2,000 copies will be downloaded by prospective readers. It remains to be seen how many actually read the book, write reviews, and encourage others to order the book. Meanwhile, the author earns a modest royalty payment for each page read.

D.P. Benjamin's newest novel, set in New Mexico, is off and running. The official launch will take place in the Land of Enchantment this summer. But it's already available as an audiobook at Audible.com and the eBook version will be offered free on Amazon from May 1-5. The paperback is available on Amazon and can be ordered at any bricks and mortar Barnes & Noble or at the B&N online bookstore.
