One year ago, I decided that I should test drive my collection of veg tanned leather pouches to see how they hold up. I’m thinking that they held up quite well. That’s what I’m always aiming for with everything I make. It must be durable, good looking, and function as intended!

I took a slight break from my garden activities in order to practice my bread making skills. I need to figure out the reason for the bulges. Clearly, I need to slash more aggressively next time. I’m working a sourdough starter that I’m willing to share. I also have an active kombucha ferment going that I will share. Healthy gut bacteria, fresh air, and sunlight are all necessary for good health. Oh, asking for a friend, is it better to carry extra calories on the body or to keep them in the literal pantry?

Did you get your shovel yesterday?

Step One: If you don’t own a shovel and a rake like these, go buy them today. The gyms are closed and you can accomplish oh so much as far as increased body strength and endurance goes.

I’ll be back tomorrow with Step Two but only for the people who prefer to be proactive instead of panicking.

PS: I’m very proud of this shovel that my family has attempted to replace for me. It’s 28 years old and I made every void in it. It’s smaller, lightweight, a perfect angle, and because it’s a composite handle, it’s okay if I leave it out. Not a best practice but it’s my practice. I’ve broken every garden on my property with this glorious thing.

We all have our favorite things and these are mine that I use every single day and multiple times a day.

Top left to right: small hand turned (by Ezra) cherry bowl for Maldon Sea Salt Flakes, flat edged cherry spoon by cpbasils.com, santoku knife by Cutco (14 years every day), pepper mill by , butter keeper by , olive wood butter knife by cpbasils.com, our very own suede skillet sleeve, Ateco natural bristle brush, stomper by cpbasils.com, our very own suede potholders, cherry tsp/tbsp measuring spoon by cpbasils.com, salt shaker found in the woods by Jeremiah.

Really, you should visit C.P. Basils website. I have so many of his hand turned kitchen tools that I really do use every single day. The stomper is a fabulous tool for garlic, crushing nuts, tenderizing meat. I leave the butter knife as shown because the butter stays out all the time. I use the measuring spoon for dry measure and simply wipe it off. It’s great to have at hand.

My skillet sleeve stays on my cast iron skillet unless I need to really wash it. Potholders are in the drawer at the ready.

Invest in good kitchen tools especially the handmade ones.

Lastly, I use my rolling bar cart every single day. I genuinely recommend getting one if you can find someone who makes them. made the concrete top for mine which puts it over the top for usefulness. I can roll it anywhere I need it and also use it for extra seating. Top rated kitchen tool!
