Some might consider Friday the 13th as unlucky, but today we’re harnessing all the magical girl power we can by showcasing items from two vendors.
First, let me introduce you to - she brought me the most amazing handmade wreaths. They are positively luscious! I need more front doors to showcase them all!!! (Can you imagine the delights she’ll bring for Christmas?!).
Dawn is a Castro Valley resident and she started wreath making to help her during her recovery process. Here at Elevate we firmly believe that creativity is 100% therapeutic and we are so happy to support an artist who is using her amazing talent to grow and heal. We have a limited supply here at the shop, but I know we will be seeing lots more from this amazing creator. Please come by and get yours soon, I have a feeling these won’t be sticking around long.
Our second vendor has brought us these adorable corner embellishments. has made these adorable acrylic door hangers to add a touch of whimsy. ($13 for Friday the 13th!)

Today is Ginger Cat appreciation day! I did not know that this morning when I had to strip my bed because one of them caught her first mouse last night, brought it into our bedroom and apparently laid it on our pillow during the night. No, I didn’t wake up to find a ravaged mouse beside me, but there was some ook, fur and guts left on the bed. I think I have to throw away one of my down pillows.
I come home regularly to see them stretched out like this.

I am excited to introduce our newest crafter, Blue Bird Crochet. This young artist makes the softest crochet animals (amigurumis)… and they’re beyond adorable. Current stock includes turtle, monkey, bee, snail, jellyfish and chick. Each one Is lovingly handmade here in Castro Valley.

- LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT - Meet Lynnette, owner of Elevate Home Decor, Castro Valley. She is a proud Castro Valley resident.
Elevate is a a small town gift shop that’s big on good vibes. Featuring a dozen local artists as well as small batch artisan produced items, there is something for everyone.
Opening this shop was truly a community effort. Many of the display pieces and props were donated by Castro Valley’s generous Buy Nothing and Freecycle groups.
Located at 3560 Somerset Avenue, their current hours are 11-6 Tuesday through Friday, (Thursday open until 7) Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-3.
They feature locally produced candles, jewelry, handmade greeting cards, art cards, sewn clutches, pottery and plant accessories. Additional items of interest are French candies, crystals and gem gifts, sages, home decor items and California souvenirs designed in San Francisco.
Opened in late April, their goal is to create a place that supports our local community. As a long time artist and maker, Lynnette loves being able to provide a place to introduce local artists to her community.
"My favorite part of running the shop is meeting all the people I might have only previously known through other Facebook communities", Lynnette said. "It’s a thrill to message my artists when something sells! It’s true what they say, every time you buy local, someone in your community does a happy dance.”
