The water is clearing. It is 84 CFS today. The fly fishing is getting better. We started getting a few fish on beetles, there have been several good reports of people catching fish on caddis and on parachute Adams. Black woolly buggers black pine squirrel leeches we're very good this week. There were lots of fish caught on egg patterns and mop flies the brighter color seemed to be best, cream, yellow, orange, and chartreuse seem to be doing pretty good for most people. Lots of trout were caught, using thread jigs under an indicator there were also quite a few fish caught on copper John's doesn't tails and on scuds this past week.
Crackle backs are still working pretty good. We have been using a slightly bigger pattern and fishing them under the surface instead of on top a sinking or an intermediate line right now does seem to help with that particular kind of fly. It also works well with the woolly buggers and the pine squirrel leeches if you have one now is a good time to use it.
In the murky water, you can get away with 6X and 5X tippet material right now, I am still fishing a 9' leader.
If you get in on the Trico hatch in the morning, you will need a 7X tippet, a 9 to 12 foot leader really helps with these little flies. They only hatch from daylight to about 9 o'clock but if you're fishing small dries 7X will still be best.
A pink and white trout magnet fish under an indicator did very well this week for a couple of my regular customers one of them caught a nice 3 pound fish on a black trout magnet hellgrammite, in the murky water black seemed to be a good color for a lot of things this week. Black rooster tails did very a did the skunk rooster tail, and there were several trout caught on pink, and yellow rooster tails this week.
The jig fishing is getting better lots of trout caught yesterday on micro jigs, black/yellow, olive, and ginger were all working.
Most people were fishing 1/32 and 1/16 ounce marabou jigs this
week, black and yellow, white, olive green, ginger, and brown, all worked well this past week. If you're fishing, plastic baits, orange and white worms, pink and white worms and yellow cheese colored worms all did pretty good if you were using the plastic salmon, eggs, natural fish, oil, white, and fluorescent yellow eggs all did pretty good if you're using the 1 inch power bait grubs, pink and yellow, seemed to be the best colors and as usual brown still seems to work best around the Twin Falls area close to the hatchery. Zone three will fished really well this week. With the increase in water seems like there are more fish in that area than usual night crawlers and minnows work well in zone three and if you need to buy those, you will need to go to sportsman's corner 5 miles north of the park on the way to Cassville to get those items. They are the closest place to get them if you are in the park good luck on the river this week.
