On March 17, 1956 Don and Elma Stepp opened a homemade candy store in Casper, Wyoming that was destined to become a tradition with many families. After his Navy service, Don worked for Peter's Popcorn learning the trade, then he and his wife Elma opened their own store in Colorado Springs. They decided to move north, and stopped in Casper for a visit, and you can guess the rest of the story. . . D

They worked many hours handcrafting candy canes, lollipops, fudges, popcorn and candies as well as packaging gifts for all occasions. Their son, Mike, and Elma's mother were recruited for help during the holidays. Over time some things have changed - the faces behind the counter, some candies that are made, and the location of the store. One thing hasn't changed - the quality that comes from the care and pride that are part of each recipe. Come visit Donells Candies and watch three (and a half) generations of the Stepp family make homemade candies you won't forget. Good News on the horizon... It looks as though our next shipment of bulk chocolate is going to come at a price, thanks to commodity price of cocoa going back down, which might allow us to pass on some savings to our customers with a lower price at the register. This lighting of downtown is coming along. They will be closing 2nd street one block at a time for four days following Memorial Day so that the permanent lighting can be added to the trees. Please plan to use Midwest Ave and 1st street to traverse by car. Sidewalks will be open to pedestrian traffic to access area businesses.

When we talk about downtown and all the amazing businesses and organizations here, we’re talking about a community that has grown together for years. A community that has worked through the ups and downs to continue bringing events, shops, restaurants, and opportunities to the place we proudly call home.

This picture is just a small glimpse of the people who help make Casper so special. Business owners, building managers, city leaders, council members, restaurant owners, and so many others working together to keep downtown thriving.

During this particular meeting, we spent a lot of time talking about Crazy Days! This year, July 17th & 18th will mark the 65th Annual Crazy Days in downtown Casper. We’re planning an exciting weekend filled with shopping, a car show, kids events, and an amazing concert at David Street Station.

Behind every event, storefront, and gathering place is a group of people who care deeply about this community and continue showing up to make it better for all of us.
