Middle School Program: Science for Kids
We have received so many requests to offer middle school science classes again! We are deeply honored that our classes are so well received in the community, and we are committed to helping this next generation find their feet in the ever-evolving world around us.
We are currently looking for (20) motivated, curious and committed students in rising Grades 6, 7 and 8 for a new year-long science and technology program at the Science Safari.
With 20 students, we will explore the sciences comprehensively, winding our way through biology, chemistry, physics and engineering, earth and space sciences. We’ll observe how they all fit together and support each other. We’ll experiment to challenge what we think we know, and we’ll begin to uncover just how incredible this universe is - from the tiniest quark, to the chemistry that holds it together, to the life that is formed in it. And we’ll consider how we as humans fit in to all this and how we might want to fit into it going forward.
This is a lab-style class that meets once a week for 90 minutes. There is generally no prep work in advance, but there will be an in-class worksheet with instructions and information, and additional resources available weekly. At the end of each unit, a self test will be provided.
There are two class time options: Tuesdays 10:00 - 11:30 AM or Tuesdays 12:30 - 2:00 PM
Classes will run September 1 - November 17, 2026, and January 5 - May 25, 2027. There is a winter holidays break with no classes between November 17 and January 5. There is a spring break with no class the week of March 30, 2027.
Science is not just about technology or engineering skills. Those are fascinating and fun, and we will cover them in depth! But they evolved from something else. Science is a perspective and how you learn provides whole new pathways to exploring in life. We build our classes on the solid foundation created by curious, unafraid, passionate scientists over thousands of years of discovery - Aristotle, Galileo, and Copernicus, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Katherine Johnson, Steven Hawking, Jane Goodall, and many, many more. Beyond that, we model, demonstrate and encourage the spark of curiosity that guides us all.
Total cost for the yearlong program is $1050.00.
We need 20 students to offer this program. Registration is open now through June 30. If you are ready to join us, call us at the Science Safari (919) 460-6051 to get on the registration list. If you need the morning class, please call soon as that typically fills faster. We cannot take additional students over 20, but we do keep a wait list. In the event we do not get 20 students, you will receive a full refund.
You all know the quality of classes the Science Safari has provided for over 30 years. We have deep gratitude for the long lines people wait in to register for our elementary age classes! We will continue to nurture and grow the seeds of curiosity in our middle school students so that no matter what they do in life, they will be experiencing it from a place of depth, compassion and appreciation for the extraordinariness of this existence. We look forward to meeting your student!
