What a delight to share the Blessing Nisser at the Scandinavian Christmas Fair yesterday! We had a delightful time meeting many families and individuals with Scandinavian roots and those interested in the culture.

It was a privilege to share my children’s Christmas book that fosters a love of learning and serving others! And we sold out of all the book sets I brought! God is faithful!

What a wonderful idea Oak City Academy.

OCA’s “I’ve been Gnomed for Christmas” event has begun! Watch for Christmas gnomes popping up at OCA families yards all across the Triangle! The idea came to us after the author of the book, “The Blessing Nisser” came to OCA a few years ago to read to our classrooms. The story describes the Danish Christmas tradition where Nissers (tiny gnomes) delight in teaching humans how to love and serve others through random acts of kindness. Each family’s yard will not only be “gnomed” by one of their classmates, but they will receive the “Blessing Nisser” book on their front porch to read together. Each family is then challenged to come up with (and carry out) one random act of kindness for a neighbor or friend who may not be expecting it this Christmas. Join us this holiday season to share the love of Jesus with someone who could use a little extra joy this season. Merry Christmas from the OCA family to your family!!!! 🎄❤️ (If you’ve gnomed, seen a home that is gnomed, or been gnomed please share your pics in the comments!)

Another Christmas season is upon us and even though our world has been turned upside down, we still need kindness, love and support. We are planning on serving those around us. It may look a little different but it is still possible. Kids are looking for normalcy and by serving others we remind them and us of the importance of giving of ourselves. Keep checking back to see what our Nisser do in our town. Let us know what you are doing too!

Something was missing from Christmas...

The focus was on me, myself and I. Everyone wanted gift ideas, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends. No wonder my girls were so focused on themselves.

We started to look for ways to bless those around us.

-Who can we serve today?

-Let’s rake the neighbour’s leaves?

-Want to make cookies for the police officers?

-Do your sibling's chores!

Before we knew it, their hearts were changed. My heart was changed. All because our focus looked outwards instead of inwards.

This was the reason I wrote The Blessing Nisser.

Read a magical tale of a Danish family’s Christmas adventure with two mythical creatures – the Nisser – who model service to one another and the community. Through the eyes and actions of Charlotte, our heroine, children see a model of love, forgiveness, service, and faithfulness. From the farm in southern Denmark all the way to Copenhagen, join the Olsen family as they travel across the country or just down the street serving their family and community. Learn about Danish Christmas traditions such as æbleskiver, gløgg, and julehjerter. Discover the story behind the Blessing Nisser as they guide Charlotte in the practice of loving those around her, whether it be her annoying older brother or the grumpy old man who lives down the street. If you are looking for a way to cultivate a servant’s heart in your children, gather them around with blankets, hot chocolate, and candles; enjoy the hygge; read this charming tale, and challenge them to follow in Charlotte’s footsteps.

The Blessing Nisser book comes with a kit in order for children to be part of the story. The kit includes material for children to make two nisser and a set of acts of kindness cards. We want to help parents be intentional in how they teach children to be a blessing to others.

Be the Blessing today!

Make reading “The Blessing Nisser” by Kirstie Marx a holiday tradition in your family.
