Discover Cameron, NC's sweet dewberry heritage! 🍓
In the late 1890s, the Lucretia dewberry was introduced to Moore County by Henry P. Bilyeu. It quickly boomed, making tiny Cameron the "Dewberry Capital of the World" by 1907. Fields surrounded the town, with berries auctioned and shipped fresh by railroad—fueling the local economy until the crop faded in the 1950s. A delicious slice of Sandhills history!
