This Memorial Day and everyday, we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Let us reflect on their unwavering courage and selfless dedication to our country.
Today, we want to share the story of Corporal Jason Dunham. Jason was only 22 years old when he made the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow Marines in Karabilah, Iraq, on April 14th, 2004.
Born in Scio, New York, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and quickly became known for his leadership, courage, and unwavering loyalty to the men beside him.
During a security patrol in Iraq, an enemy gr***de landed on top of his squad. Without hesitation or second thought, Jason threw himself onto the gr***de, shielding his fellow Marines from the blast. His split-second actions saved the lives of those around him.
For his extraordinary heroism, Cpl. Dunham was awarded our nation’s highest award, the Medal of Honor.
This Memorial Day, we remember not only the sacrifice he made, but the character, bravery, and selflessness all our service members embody.
Never forgotten 🇺🇸
