Today we are open regular hours and proud to roll out our Juneteenth Celebration Reading Stack! Inside you’ll find some of our favorite books by African-American authors who have boldly and expertly crafted narratives and real-life accounts of what it is like to be black in America—then and now. Juneteenth is a holiday that honors the end of slavery in the United States, marked by the day troops arrived in Galveston, TX, in 1865 (two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation) to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. Unfortunately, our work in ensuring equity for everyone in this country is far from finished. Now more than ever, it is imperative we condemn racism, protest legislation on every government level working to gut equality laws, and promote love for everyone regardless of race or nationality. ✊🏿❤️🖤💚
