Distelfink Fiber

Distelfink Fiber Distelfink Fiber Co. is an indie-dyer providing gorgeous colors on Merino, BFL, and locally sourced Romney/Border Leicester yarns.

is a mother-daughter yarn-dyeing company that was established after starting a small flock of Romney and Romney/Border Leicester sheep in 2013. My mom and I started hand-dyeing our own yarns when we wanted to bring to life some of our favorite colors on SW Merino and mill-spun yarn from our flock. Both of us were born and raised in Pennsylvania and spent the majority of our lives surrounded by Pen

nsylvania Dutch culture, having a large influence from extended family and the community. Through my Mom, I grew to appreciate the simple beauty in fraktur art and found great appreciation for what the Distelfink represents. Even though I no longer live in Pennsylvania, I have a lot of love for the state I grew up in and I strive to put as love and happiness into my business as I received living in that culture. We hope you enjoy our product as much as we enjoy creating it!

Can you believe the First Annual Harrisburg Area Yarn Crawl is less than 16 days away? There are over 500 of you that signed up to participate in the crawl and we are so excited. Mom and I have been busy dyeing roving and yarn, prepping batts, and planning something fun for you!

Each day of the crawl you’ll have to opportunity to meet the flock and see where our farm raised yarns come from.

On Saturday and Sunday, we have spots available for you to Design Your Own Mini-Batt. The cost is $18 for a 30 gram batt where you pick the colors, inclusions, and how you want it laid out on the carder. Sign ups are on the website so grab your spot!

We will also have a surprise that I can’t tell you about until June 11th

A few months ago I began learning to knit continental after 20+ years as a thrower due to a repetitive motion injury that well, it just keeps repeating. 😂 I definitely feel like I’m using new hands and am truly engaging in SLOOOOOWWWWW knitting. I decided to knit continental and use Portuguese purling as it seems to aggravate my wrists the least. has been a wonderful teacher, guiding me along the way on how to adjust my hands/yarn/etc.

I had the Clay Tee by in my queue with some Maggie DI and decided to give it a go as a *new* knitter. Maybe you’ll see a mostly finished garment at MDSW! Have you had to relearn how to do a task?

March happenings -

We’ve had a few warm days here and there so I’ve been spending as much time outdoors as possible. One of my favorite things lately has been taking my wheel out back to sit with the chickens and ducks.

The flock is clearly ready for green grass but the birds are still able to find goodies in the yard.

I’ve been prepping lots of mini batts, dyeing roving, and dyeing yarn for our upcoming shows. Hoping to see a bunch of you at the end of the month in Frederick!
