Happy Juneteenth, everyone!

🇺🇸 President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, legally freeing the enslaved population in the Confederate States. Finally, on June 19, 1865 (2.5 years later), Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and formally announce that ALL enslaved people were free.

This decree instantly affected the more than 250,000 enslaved citizens still residing in Texas. Texas ultimately became the first state to recognize this as an official holiday in 1980. The United States subsequently made it the nation's 11th federally recognized holiday on June 17, 2021.

Check out this vintage Gravely Model L or LI! These machines are often powered by cast-iron engines and feature a robust transmission system. It is equipped with a large rotary brush-mower attachment on the front and was likely used for brush cutting and heavy-duty lawn work. Introduced by Gravely in 1937, the Model L series features a unique, single-cylinder T-head engine that was designed by Benjamin Gravely himself. It boasts full-pressure lubrication that makes it incredibly reliable on hillsides. This specific mower came out in the early to mid 1950's. 😲🪵🌳🌱🪺🌼
