Air Temps are climbing but water temps are still cold. Paddling in cold water can be done safer if you invest in some non cotton clothing. Invest in polly wicking / fleece clothing and pack a dry bag with a towel and change of clothes as well. Paddle with a friend and stay close to shore. Tell a reliable friend your paddling plan that includes where and when and a call time you will contact them when you are done.
Dry suits are expensive but are best for paddling cold water. Wet suits help but they only buy you a little more time. Wool and fleece are 3rd Best and are an economical way to get out and enjoy paddling in cold water. They work better than cotton because they don’t cling tightly to your body like cotton does when wet. This allows a small amount of heat to be retained compared to cotton. Wet cotton literally sucks heat right away from your body.
Paddle smart, be safe and not a statistic.
