Trendsetters Consignment After 17 years in business this store closed on July 30th Consignees were encouraged at that time to pick up any unwanted merchandise.

After 17 years of owning and operating Trendsetters Consignment, I officially closed the doors for the last time on July 30th. I made the announcement in May that the building was for sale and in June I made the announcement that I had officially sold all of my fixtures and would be closing the end of July. Numerous times I requested that all consignees bring a self-addressed stamped envelope for

me to mail their final check. If you forgot to do this, no problem just please message me with your address and I will deduct $1 to cover stamp and envelope.

Just realized I never gave you all an update on Ben’s trip! This is a picture of the load that he took over to the flood victims. I woke up the morning he was leaving and realized I had forgotten to do the maternity clothes. I texted Ben and he said that I had time to get more together so I managed to put together 3 more boxes for him to take. He also shared with me that as soon as he got there the maternity was hit very quickly! 😊. They have put a hold on clothes and cleaning supplies, however he is making another trip with fans and dehumidifiers this weekend. He is buying these items with the money he has been able to collect.

Guys, this is what I call God’s timing!!! 🙌🏻 Almost daily for the last month I have been asked what I would be doing with the unsold merchandise. I had three organizations locally that I planned on donating to. However after the historic flooding in southeastern Ky I was looking for an opportunity to send the clothing to the flood victims. Tuesday (through a church email) I was given the name of Ben McCubbin. This will be Ben’s 2nd trip carrying goods over there. On his first trip he asked what he could bring back and they asked for clothing!! God closed the doors on Trendsetters at a time when WE were able to turn around and bless many that are hurting and without! This donation is what WE were able to do for these people, but only because 99% of you have always requested for your items to be donated. Over the last few days I was able to organize and label 27 boxes that will be on their way to Knott and Floyd counties tomorrow.

Today my thank you goes out to my Consignees the true heartbeat of Trendsetters Consignment! I have had over 1,600 consignees in the last 17 years. A few actually that were probably with me since the beginning and another group that were active for a large majority of those years, but even if you just found me in the last year or two, this thank you is for you too! You bringing in your items and trusting me to resell them for you was more than just a business transaction between you and I, you were part of a bigger picture that unfortunately you did not get to see. I was the one that got to see the joy on a little boy or girl's face as they got a clothing item that made them feel special. Helping people find items they were needing and seeing smiling faces as they would come out of the fitting room never got old for me. Bringing quality items at affordable prices has always been my mission. However donation was also a big part of what you allowed to happen. I was able to bless many in our community, our state, and even in other states with the clothes that I was able to donate on your behalf. Because of your faith in me year after year I was able to keep this store alive. You will never know how many people you helped out along the way and it was my absolute pleasure not just working with you, but getting to know you and your families! I will miss you all dearly! Did you know that Trendsetters wasn’t originally my dream?! I had left my job at Campbellsville University in 2000 to be a stay at home mom. I felt like my time of doing that was coming to an end and I was ready to get back into the job force. Mike reminded me of a time that I went into a consignment store walked back out and said “if I ever opened a store like that I would do it so differently!” Well in January of 2005 he put that challenge in front of my face. A local consignment store was going out of business and I had the opportunity to purchase all of their fixtures. Not at all confident in what I was doing and with no one to guide me I sat out on a path that was completely foreign to me! I had a lot to learn those first couple years but every step of the way my husband was there supporting me, building me up, and encouraging me. When I was tired of paying expensive rent, Mike is the one that in 2010 said, “Let’s find you a building to buy!” He believed in me and Mike Burton is the real reason that Trendsetters is even a reality. Yesterday I paused to thank my passed employees, today I want to give a huge Thank You to the man that has continually supported me throughout this crazy journey! What an amazing gift you have given me for the last 17 years. Mike, you knew I was doing something that I felt like God had called me to do. You knew how much I loved my job and how it made me happy to serve our community in this way. Your love and support is one of the biggest blessings God has given me! I Love you honey!

With only 4 days remaining I have been doing a lot of thinking about different people who worked for me over the years. I figure these people deserve a big shout out because they are the ones that helped me be a "working mom". Through tears and laughter they did more than just work for me. They were there when I needed to run my kids to football, basketball, swim, voice and piano lessons. They were there so I could be the lucky parent that got to attend numerous field trips. They were there for me when they ran my store while I was out of town on vacations. Some did it as a second income, some did it to pay for college, some did it just to have gas and fun $, one person did it because she felt God telling her that I really needed some extra help. There are two in this picture that worked just because they were my parents, they wanted nothing in return, but to just spend time with me in the store! Lastly are my kids I gave them both their first jobs and working for their Mom was difficult and neither one lasted long, but it got them out there finding new jobs! 😄 Without all of these people in this picture I don't know how I would have ever gotten it all done, and they are a huge part of the reason I kept Trendsetters open for 17 years! Thank you Ellen Beams (who passed away in 2014), Tina Hill, Whitney Lee Payton, Haley Kirtley, Jennifer Julian, Paige Cook, Kayla Ford, Shayla Carter, Jasmine Barnett, Sarah Stults, Mariah-Levi Shively, Jordan Nuccitelli, Jennifer Godsey, Katelyn Miller, Taylor Christine Smoot, Kay Emerick, Justin Burton, Kaylee Compton! (sorry, but I wasn't able to tag everyone) I really hope I didn't miss anyone! I tried really hard to go back and grab pictures that were near the years that they worked for me! Look who surprised me and came home last night so she could work with me one last time! Kaylee was a few months shy of being 5 when I opened back in Feb. 2005. She would go to pre-school in the mornings and then spend her afternoons with me. She was running the register by the time she was in 1st grade. I have many precious memories of her being with me at the store. Many of you got to watch her grow up over the years as I watched your children grow too! I can’t believe this is my last week! Please stop by this week so I can say my final goodbyes to all of you!
