A great opening morning. We only had a couple hours to hunt but it brought back some memories.
The first picture was our last turkey hunt together a few days before Dan left for the Army. Yesterday, 7 years later, was our first turkey hunt together and a little over a month from the end of his military service.

My daughter Jessica finally got the chance to go hunting this morning and the gobblers didn’t disappoint. After hearing no gobbles at first light we started calling our way back to the vehicle. We struck some Tom’s… hammering, cutting off every call and they came in on a string. She made a close and well-executed shot with multiple birds approaching. Her biggest bird yet!

Congratulations to our son, Dan Fox, on his successful afternoon hunt in Georgia! Dan was able to take advantage of time limited hunting opportunities on public land and call this gobbler across a river. His bird had a 9” beard and 7/8” spurs.

Down to the wire this year but tagged out on the last morning. 4 hunts on this group I called “The 3 Amigos”, which were inseparable. Unfortunately for them they’ll have to figure out who the new boss is.
Multiple close calls with this group including yesterday with my daughter which I was hoping it would all come together for her.
I finally got to take out the newly designed slate over aluminum I’ve been working on and it performed as well as I thought it would.
I hope everyone’s season was filled with great memories.

Pretty interesting find today while Turkey hunting. We found this log laying on the ground that had been “raked” by a bear.
I’ve never seen this on a log laying on the ground that the bear wasn’t doing this for food. The log was solid. No bugs and no underdround bee hives to raid.
I’ve seen the mark standing trees but nothing like this.
Has anyone else seen this or have any theories?

This bird fell to a well placed decoy and some soft talk on a 3” copper pot call set in Canarywood.

Good luck to all the Turkey hunters this season and please stay safe!
It was a cold one for sure and we laughed saying it looked more like deer season (33 degrees and a real feel of +8). A beautiful snow filled morning but boy it shut the birds we roosted down completely!
My daughter and I’ll be back after them tomorrow.

Still pretty busy in the shop this week. Here are a couple Caribbean Rosewood calls- Slate over Glass and Slate over Ceramic- ordered and heading out. Amazing figure in these pots with a sound to match.
