Posted • We are continuing our celebration of Independent Retailer Month with Coady Florist Shop! Coady Florist has been in operation in Cambridge for over 90 years. This business was first opened in the early 1920s by Francis D. (David) Coady. Coady was prominent in Cambridge politics of his time and a well-known City Councilor. By the 1950s, his son John had taken over the family business. John operated the florist shop from 1390 Cambridge Street and later moved to 1498 Cambridge. Coady Florist was purchased by Charles Marquardt in the early 1970s, and retained the long-standing name. The business continued to grow and the Marquardt family purchased neighboring Galgay Florist in 1994. Finally, Coady Florist relocated to a larger space at 1540 Cambridge on the corner of Ellsworth Avenue where Marquardt's son, Dan, operates the business today.
