Exciting things are happening behind the scenes at Spocott Windmill & Village! This hidden gem will host an open house April 18, 10am to 3pm, when you can stroll the property and check out the 1800s-era buildings – including a one-room schoolhouse, country store and museum, the Adaline Wheatley cottage, a doctor’s office, and a blacksmith shop. Plus there’s the windmill itself, a reconstruction of the Spocott Windmill, which blew down in 1888.
You won’t be able to see the windmill running on April 18, but volunteers behind the scenes have been hard at work to get the windmill up and running again. They have been searching nationwide for a millwright who could take on the restoration. Now they’re hoping that the windmill will be able to run again in 2027.
Learn more by chatting with the windmill folks at the open house, or read about the plans to restore the windmill and overhaul the property to protect from rising sea levels in their spring newsletter at spocottwindmill.org/newsletter.
Spocott is located at 1609 Hudson Rd., Cambridge, MD.
