🐝 Queen update!

5 out of our 10 queen cells have hatched. Today, we placed the newly emerged queens along with the remaining unhatched queen cells into a queenless nuc.

A queenless nuc provides warmth and protection while the remaining queens emerge and the virgin queens prepare for their mating flights.

Now we wait and let nature do its work! 👑🐝

The honey house is starting to fill up. These are the first supers of the season, with more still to come from the bee yards.

Now it’s time to extract, bottle, and get this year’s honey ready. We can’t wait to share it with you! 🐝🍯

🐝 Queen Rearing Update 👑

A few days ago, we grafted tiny larvae into queen cups and let the bees do the rest. After being fed royal jelly and raised as future queens, the cells are now capped and ready for the next stage.

To keep them safe, warm, and protected, we’ve moved the queen cells into an incubator. Within a couple of days, they’ll be placed into queenless hives and mating nucs where the new queens will emerge and begin their journey to becoming productive queens.

From a tiny larva to the future leader of a colony—nature never stops amazing us. 🐝

We spent the day learning queen rearing and grafting with Beachy Honeybees. It’s incredible how much skill and precision goes into raising quality queens.

Thank you to Beachy Honeybees for a great class and for sharing your knowledge. We’re excited to put what we learned into practice in our own apiaries!
