Step back in time and explore the history of Nelsonville!

Invisible Ground recently unveiled two immersive historic markers at Nelsonville’s Public Square and Brick Kilns, along with a new podcast episode about Nelsonville. Using augmented reality, the markers bring local history to life through your smartphone or other mobile device, offering an interactive way to experience Nelsonville’s past.

The Nelsonville Community Foundation, in partnership with FAO and the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation, awarded this project a 2024 grant. We are proud to support this innovative project that preserves and celebrates the rich history of our beloved hometown and communities across Southeast Ohio.

🎣🐟 National Fishing Month Starts Today! Explore the Ohio Appalachian Byway! 🐟🎣

July 24 marks the beginning of National Fishing Month, and the Ohio Appalachian Byway is the perfect place to celebrate. Winding through Noble, Monroe, Morgan, and portions of Athens and Muskingum counties, the Byway offers some of the best fishing opportunities in southeastern Ohio—from large reservoirs to secluded reclaimed mining ponds.

🎣 Burr Oak Lake – This 664-acre reservoir near Glouster is a favorite destination for anglers seeking quality largemouth bass and saugeye. With a 10-horsepower motor limit, it's a peaceful place to fish, and accessible paved fishing access is available at Dock #4. Bass anglers can target fallen timber, while saugeye are often caught trolling deep-running lures.

🎣 Wolf Run Lake – Located just three miles north of Caldwell, this 220-acre lake is highly rated for channel catfish and is actively managed as a rainbow trout fishery. With camping available on the south shore and a 10-horsepower motor limit, Wolf Run is a great destination for a fishing getaway.

🎣 Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area & Jesse Owens State Park – Covering more than 54,000 acres of reclaimed mining land, this unique landscape features hundreds of ponds ideal for kayak and shore fishing. Anglers can target bass, bluegill, and other panfish while enjoying a truly secluded outdoor experience. The Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area is also recognized as one of Ohio's top 10 destinations for catfish and sunfish fishing, making it a must-visit stop along the Byway.

🎣 Ohio River (Belleville Pool) – Bordering the eastern end of the Byway near Clarington, this stretch of the Ohio River produces healthy populations of walleye, sauger, and black bass. Numerous boat ramps and public access points make it easy to spend a day on the water.

Whether you're chasing trophy catfish, casting for bass, trolling for saugeye, or introducing a child to fishing for the first time, the Ohio Appalachian Byway offers a fishing adventure for every angler.
