Sharing this story today as we remember all of our veterans who have served. 🇺🇸

Many of you have asked how I chose the name Pelican Picks, I’ll try to be as brief as possible on this Memorial Day without going into too much detail.
When I started this little business a few years ago, it initially began with two other ladies that shared the love of antiques and vintage with me, we were in this together. These two had already established a bird name for their businesses so that left me with one to choose.
As my husband and I had recently attended a Navy VP-48 reunion in San Diego, immediately “Pelican” came to mind, as this was the squadrons mascot that my husband’s dad had belonged. You see, Scott didnt know his dad as he had perished in a plane crash along with 12 others in Iwakuni, Japan back in 1968, so when we received the invitation to attend this reunion we were beyond thrilled to get to meet these Navy Veterans. Upon meeting these men who are now well up into their 70s and 80s, we were so fortunate to hear so many stories from years past. As there were some sad there were also some with quite a bit of humor. The ones that stood out to me most were centered around a 3 foot carved pelican mascot and how it would show up in different places throughout the years, the pranks that these guys would play on each other with this pelican, the grins on their faces and smiles in their eyes as they were sharing these silly juvenile prankster stories made them look like young men again. There was no question as to what bird name as I would choose
So now you know how Pelican Picks got its name….as far as  the other bird ladies, it didn’t turn out as planned but all is good! 😊
