Spruill Center for the Arts is having their Holiday Sale, and it opens November 14! One of my favorite potters is offering his sweet cat mugs for sale there. Leitson's Celadon blue is always my favorite, but the darker blue with green ones are delicious, too; as are the brown caramel kitties. So cute. Noel Benedict can be reached at [email protected], and these mugs/cups can be purchased through Spruill. He has some cute bird mugs in the mix, too.

My cat mugs for sale at the Spruill Gallery this Christmas. I don’t usually do cute but every now and then it’s fun. Each face developed a personality. Now technically speaking this is standard 181 fired to cone 6 no hold.

Sometimes just going for simple unrefined edges and form can bring interesting results. The Firebird is Amaco underglazes on porcelain with a rubbed on red underglaze background. After adding a little more color, I think I will low fire with clear only over the flat oval surface. Then this Phoenix will rise from clay dust to my countertop. #phoenix#mythicalbird##handmade#slabrolled#porcelain#folkartbird#rainbowofcolor#firebird##clay

My favorite little woolly cat-a-pillar. Thanks to the placemat, Pookie was able to find her perfect self-assigned seating placement. For everyone appalled at a cat on the table, you obviously live under the delusional illusion that once you leave your house, kitties are floor bound beasties instead of the flying machines they really are. At least she settled on an easily washable placemat. #thethingswedoforlove#catsonthetable#cats#herekittykitty#ilovecats#ilovemycat

Noel Benedict Gardener Series continues with this just carved but not yet fired story of the gardener hoeing his patch and somebunny inviting himself to the feast. The porcelain cup will go through two to three firings to complete its journey to become someone’s favorite coffee or tea cup.

Taking a small break from the more demanding concentration of Noel Benedict’s Gardener’s Cup series, a baby dragon made its appearance in one of the bowls last night. I think the baby dragon has not found its roar yet. This is leather hard porcelain and not bisque fired yet. The kiln will work its magic and this will emerge in a lovely snowy white porcelain vitrification. Two firings later it will be glazed and ready to use. Can’t wait to see this little dragon emerging from the fire.#dragons#handmade#handthrown#dragon#therebedragons#noelbenedictpottery#ceramicbowls

Noel Benedict’s new sgraffito gardener’s series is near to my heart. These are hand thrown and carved porcelain cups and this one depicts the gardener choosing just the right gift plant and the opposite side depicts delivering the plant to its lucky recipient. Just in bisque stage now. I can see this in spring colors. #gardeners#gardenersworld#gardening#gardendesign #birdsofinstagram #bird_lovers #birds

01/02/2019

The fallen stems I saved from my mother’s impatiens plants when I deconstructed her apartment in October grew water roots and created two buds, one of which burst into a bloom for me on New Year’s Eve. I had given her beloved plants to her dear friend who understood their importance, but in transitioning them, this and a few other stems had fallen off. I placed them in a glass vase and hoped they would be okay till planted. I feel like my father spoke to me in morning glories and my mother in impatiens. Then I looked out my windows last evening, and my mother in law Bonnie’s camellia bushes she had given us as starts off her bushes were blooming their hearts out in red vivid contrast to the dark branches of wet winter.

What a beautiful way to start the New Year.

Go forth and bloom today! #naturespeaksinflowers#bloomtoyourheartscontent#flowers#memoriesoflove#bloomwhereyouareplanted#

12/31/2018

To my customers who shared my love of Velveteen-Rabbit-vintage and the creative arts and pottery objects this last year before I left physical retail space, here are some thoughts to ponder. They are voiced about pottery but apply so well to our everyday lives.

“Kintsugi pottery pertains to the Zen ideal of Wabi sabi, the concept of embracing imperfection. It means finding pleasure in aged and worn objects, and value their blemishes as beautiful.”

“Kintsugi repair also relates to other Japanese expressions, such as mottainai, which means to regret wasting something, and mushin, which means to free one’s mind and accept change.”

So in this coming year, free your mind to accept the changes, free your spirit of unnecessary regrets, treasure your vintage pieces and memories, and find pleasure in what is in your daily life. Beauty is always in your perception of it.

Happy New Year.

This is goodbye to West Main Trade and hello to continued happiness on Instagram and Facebook and eventually Pinterest and Etsy. Who knows where a good road might lead? As of December 31 I am no longer affiliated in any way with new ownership at West Main Trade. I am excited and energized with happiness that my journey is looking not backward with any regret but forward and surrounded by good energy! Grinches are too busy trying to subtract instead of add to ever understand just how resilient Whoville folks can be. Noel Benedict Pottery (which you can still find at Hudgens Center for the Arts and Spruill), can still be purchased. Just message me.

I know this year has been very hard for so many others. But remember, we only get one life. Find your happiness in every single day. Enjoy moments if you can’t have whole days. Life and living fully is the trip along the way and not the destination.

And a big thank you to my husband and son, who sprang into action faster than a speeding Santa, far faster than a silly Grinch’s mood swing, and spent Christmas driving to North Carolina to pick up the trailer and then helped pack up everything to start a brand new slate in 2019. Thanks, Noel, Clay, and Maria. Love always wins.

Christmas at Midlife
-by Mary Anne Perrone

I am no longer waiting for a special occasion; I burn the best candles on ordinary days.
I am no longer waiting for the house to be clean; I fill it with people who understand that even dust is Sacred.
I am no longer waiting for everyone to understand me; It’s just not their task
I am no longer waiting for the perfect children; my children have their own names that burn as brightly as any star.
I am no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop; It already did, and I survived.
I am no longer waiting for the time to be right; the time is always now.
I am no longer waiting for the mate who will complete me; I am grateful to be so warmly, tenderly held.
I am no longer waiting for a quiet moment; my heart can be stilled whenever it is called.
I am no longer waiting for the world to be at peace; I unclench my grasp and breathe peace in and out.
I am no longer waiting

As of today my physical retail space is closed and I am no longer affiliated with West Main Trade. I enjoyed being part of a dream the former owners had to create a lovely retail space, and they have moved on to enjoy other goals now. The ownership has changed. I am choosing to surround myself in love and positivity, and I am grateful for all of the support my Facebook friends and customers gave me in likes and patronage for my LMN3 Curators space over the last two years. My magpie nature will never stop collecting interesting eclectica, and I love to share my finds; so when I rename my Page, I think I will reinvent it as The Queen of Eclectica or maybe The Queen of Eclectic. I like the sound of both of those. Either one sounds so much better than Hoarders We Have Known or You Bought a What? Soooooo…don’t go away. I’ll be back with more to share. I also am thrilled to be concentrating on my own art this coming year with less distraction.

I want to especially send a loving thank you to my husband and son, who found themselves unexpectedly dealing with a grinch who tried to steal the spirit of Christmas on Christmas Eve. The antidote required spending their Christmas Day driving to North Carolina to pick up a trailer, showing that the true spirit of Christmas is not where you are but who you are with. Love means you never have to do hard tasks alone. Today both of them spent their day moving LMN3 Curators out of the store and into storage for now. My friend Maria was there by our side helping. Thank you, Maria.

As often happens when the universe lets us know we are in sync with the unfolding of our lives, even when we aren’t so sure, Facebook memories reminded me of a special poem I had shared earlier--“ Christmas at Midlife.” The poem brought me just the right message and feeling. I hope you like it, too.

I am no longer waiting to do something great; being awake to carry my grain of sand is enough.
I am no longer waiting to be recognized; I know that I dance in a holy circle.
I am no longer waiting for Forgiveness. I believe, I Believe.

It’s the last day of shopping for loved ones before Santas everywhere go home to celebrate the fruit of all their labor with those they treasure. For the discerning art lover on your list, I recommend this delicately carved hand thrown sgraffito vessel by Georgia artist Noel Benedict. Branches with birds wrap around the surface. A lovely gift for anyone who appreciates the value of original art.#westmaintrade#lmn3curatorsatwestmaintrade#sgraffito#christmas #clayvessels#bird #birdsofinstagram

I call this guy The Velveteen Turtle. I’m not sure how old he is, but I would guess he might have been a wood shop project back in the days boys took shop in high school. He’s large fir the pincushion I think he is. Worn in spots from age and being loved so much. At West Main Trade for the turtle lover or seamstress on your shopping list. #westmaintrade #turtlesofinstagram#pincushions#vintagesewingnotions

“With a knick knack paddy wack, give a dog a bone...”. .Well, not these bones. These are exclusive hand made, porcelain doggie ornaments with hand wrapped copper hangers. I made only these and one other set for a friend this year. These could be personalized by a calligrapher and one just happens to be coming to West Main Trade this Saturday. The small bones are 6 dollars each and the larger house and fire hydrant are $7.50 each . There may be more through special orders but these are it for this year. Call West Main Trade to buy them or go by and check them out in person. Perfect for dog loving friend or to commemorate your own sweet companions past and present.

Fall is in the air and Halloween is just around the corner! Drop by and check out new items...cute black cats, a bat Windsock, Pin the Tale on the black cat game, and holiday greeting signs...or should I say "Beware"?! Also look throughout the booth for Blue Dot Specials...it's our end of Summer Sale now :-)
I have commandeered Noel's page. I think it is time we start encouraging Noel Benedict to begin creating this year's Halloween mugs for sale. Last year he only made four or five, and I did not get one. Imagine that. So this year I plan to start reminding him early and then I will post myself by the kiln to claim my mug! I am sure he will have others for sale, if you are looking for a great hand thrown and altered mug of your own for the season of hallowed space and time. What do you all think?
