Absolutely thrilled to have presenting PUNISHMENT PARK with a q&a about both the flick and her wonderful book, REVOLUTION IN 35mm, at our next VIVA PRESENTS at on Wed 3/12 at 7pm.
If you aren’t yet familiar, Samm is a fantabulous film historian absolutely worth following. Hosts the wonderful EROS + MASSACRE podcast, previously hosted the TWITCH OF THE DEATH NEEVE podcast and has made commentary tracks for a wild number of boutique Blu-ray Discs (if you own any vin syn, mondo Macabro, etc. you’ve likely got a commentary track on your shelf now…the upcoming Godzilla disc from Criterion will feature Samm too…and the already available 4K Kindergarten Cop). I always learn a ton from Samm’s work, add many movies to my watch list and generally feel much more excited about cinema after encountering Samm’s work. A true treasure to cult cinema fans! YOU SHOULD FREAKIN BUY HER BOOK AND JOIN US!!! Book will also be available at the screening…it’s great, and I highly recommend it!!

Hey y'all!!! Super excited for our next outing at Bryn Mawr Film Institute! We'll be doing our first book event at BMFI with Samm Deighan on hand to talk about her book REVOLUTION IN 35MM, intro the film PUNISHMENT PARK and do a Q&A following. I HIGHLY recommend the book and if you haven't picked it up already it will be on hand for purchase. If you're not yet familiar with Samm's work, you can probably a rad commentary track in your physical media library. I particularly love the CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD commentary on Cauldron Films and the KINDERGARTEN COP track on the 4k disc. Samm's got a track on the upcoming Godzilla disc from Criterion too! Her current podcast EROS + MASSACRE is a must for any genre/cult/fringe cinema fan, and her previous podcast TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE was absolutely fantastic as well. JOIN US MARCH 12th!!!

What’s up Vivans? Our next screening is coming up this Thursday, July 11, at ! This time it’s Alejandro Amenabar’s 1996 debut, “Thesis” (aka “Tesis”). This twisty thriller kicks off when Angela (Ana Torrent, “Spirit of the Beehive”) begins investigating a potentially authentic s***f movie she locates in her school’s film archive. It’s both an exploration of the push/pull of violent images, and a very fun ride! Mikey the cat was even able to pose patiently next to the blu-ray in order to get the word out! May 30th brings Viva back to BMFI with a much forgotten video store gem: CRIME WAVE (aka THE BIG CRIMEWAVE). A delightful low budget comedy…zany, creative, smart and kinetic…think Kids in the Hall, Raimi, Coens, Harris, Adv. of Pete and Pete as the vibe…I saved this tape from the Locust street TLA to make sure we had it in Bryn Mawr, then at Viva. Still it’s only wide release…never made it to a DVD or Blu-ray aside from a direct mail order release for a hit minute. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and unbelievable this STILL hasn’t been more widely recognized for its awesomeness…I mean it’s been nearly 40 years people! When’s the world gonna catch up?!?! Our next Bryn Mawr Film Institute screening is up! We'll be showing AKOUNAK TEDALAT TAHA TAZOUGHAI (Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red In It)! A loose remake of Prince's PURPLE RAIN, this flick features the INCREDIBLE JAMZ of Niger guitarist Mdou Moctar. Maybe you had the good sense to catch him at Ardmore Music Hall a few months back? I hope so! Tiernan will be introducing the flick and moderating the talk back. Wikipedia tells me this is the first tuareg language fiction flick...join us!!!
