Well, our second Rage & Revelry community night at The 101 is on the books, and what an amazing time it was! A huge thank you to everyone who came out!

Here are a few random shots from the night. Nicole and I are constantly having to remind ourselves to actually pull out our phones and take pictures or videos at these events. We're so much more used to rolling up our sleeves and doing the hands-on work that remembering to play "social media manager" is definitely still a work in progress for us! 😅

But even without a lot of footage, the night was a massive success. Bad Movie Bingo and What The Dub were an absolute blast, and it was wonderful getting to share some of our latest updates and efforts for Common Ground in such a fun, casual setting.

Especially in turbulent times like these, just getting out, connecting, and building genuine community feels more important than ever. Thank you for showing up and sharing that space with us.

We’ll be hosting Rage & Revelry every second Tuesday of the month, so we can't wait to catch everybody at the next one in August! 🍻🎲

We bought some cute "chicken arms" for the Common Ground cluckers to wear, but they weren't as amused with them as we were.

Because of that, we don't have any videos of them looking menacing wearing them to show you, but we did Photoshop their heads as different action movie heroes instead though!

Gotta do something to get you to laugh through this heat, right?

Enjoy Rambo as John Wick, Lucy as Mrs. Incredible, Cuckoo as The Bride, and Shadow as Katniss Everdeen!

The movie for Bad Movie Bingo at July's Rage & Revelry community night is THE STUFF (1985)!🎬

A mysterious white dessert shows up out of nowhere, it's heavily marketed across the country, and pretty soon the whole country can't stop eating it. Turns out it's not food at all. It's alive, and it's taking over from the inside.

We picked it because it's a campy classic, sure, but also basically a about ultra-processed food and the marketing machine behind it. Mystery ingredients. Zero nutrition.

Which is the whole reason Common Ground exists. Heirloom seeds instead of chemical ingredients nobody can pronounce. Toxin-free soil instead of preservatives you'd need a chemistry degree to understand. Food you can watch grow out of the dirt with your own two eyes. No corporate "STUFF" required.

Also, it's just a genuinely unhinged 80s shlock horror, and a great group-watch.

This month's lineup:
🎯 Bad Movie Bingo with prizes generously donated by local food trucks like You Need A Treat and Raging Bull Street Tacos!
🎙️ What the Dub, like Cards Against Humanity, but for movies!

Rage & Revelry is our monthly free hangout (every second Tuesday at The 101), a totally different vibe from our volunteer days. No dirt under your nails required. Just neighbors, cheap drinks, free snacks, and a genuinely cheesy flick. Building community isn't limited to being willing to roll up your sleeves and pull weeds with your neighbors, it's kicking back and relaxing with us sometimes too!

📍 The 101
🗓️ July 14th, 7PM

Free and open to everyone.
Bring a friend and find out why we'd rather grow fresh stuff instead of "THE STUFF" 🤣

Steinbeck wrote The Grapes of Wrath about people who'd lost almost everything except each other. People who found that the only way to survive was turning "I" into "we." That's not a bad way to think about the Fourth.

The country we want isn't handed down from politicians in Washington; it gets built block by block, by community willing to show up for each other. Community that's supportive even when they might vote differently. That's an American tradition worth keeping: neighbors who choose each other over a name on a ballot.

Wishing everyone in the Brazos Valley a good Fourth, and a reminder that "Common Ground" is something we build, on purpose, together.

Today we celebrate the things which have brought America to its 250th anniversary year:

1) Its children
2) Its diversity
3) Its mixed-culture
4) Its vast natural lands and resources
5) Its generosity
6) Its unity

Patriotism is not something we flamboyantly tout. It's something we humbly practice in unison, every day.

It's International Joke Day! 🎉 We here at Common Ground are knee-deep in getting the chickens settled outside, but couldn't resist sharing a few:

Why couldn't the gardener grow any flowers in their raised beds?
Because they hadn't botany. 😉

Nicole: How many garden volunteers showed up today?
Wayne: 16, I think.
Nicole: Okay, round them up.
Wayne: Alright, 20. 🥁
(Funny thing some of our real exchanges are like this.)

And the one that sums up why we do this:

What's the secret to a thriving community garden?
Finding Common Ground. 💚

What've you got for International Joke Day? Drop your best one in the comments! We'll be reading them between chicken-babysitting duties 🐔

Hey Brazos Valley! 👋 The youth have spoken, and Nicole and I finally caved. Common Ground is officially on Instagram! Turns out, you have to be there if you want the under-40 crowd to see what you're doing. 📱👴👵

All jokes aside, we are gearing up to break ground this fall, and we want you with us every step of the way. That means making our updates and content as accessible as possible, to as much of our community as we can.

Follow to watch us get our hands dirty and build this grassroots regenerative garden from the soil up. We couldn't do this without your support! 🌱🚜✨
