Because my husband is tired of being asked to carry all my crap when we go out to the big coop. 🤣
I’m always saying “Babe, can you carry this….” So I needed an apron that could handle a phone, some eggs, a few baby chicks, some goat/sheep treats and whatever else I need to throw in it.
We’re gonna put this prototype through the wringer and probably make a few modifications before it makes its way to the shop for our grand reopening.

Baby season has begun! Daddy is photo #2. I JUST moved out my quail we picked up at auction yesterday and packed away the pack n play thinking I’d never have to raise babies inside again. My husband is AS WE SPEAK building me a brooder barn in the garden. My girls had other plans and today the eggs have started hatching. I have three broody hens in the main coop, and my lone silkie hen is broody in her own coop. It’s about to get busy here!

I made the Jamaican Christmas drink for my husband yesterday. Admittedly my personality is in the toilet these days, and I spend more days looking like a trainwreck than the woman he married thanks to mom life. BUT, I can cook and its the skill I use most to keep him coming home. So far, it’s working. 🤣
I let it steep all night and all day. I added water to thin it a bit, sweetened it with hot honey, and added a slice of orange, two slices of jalapeno and a shot of Smirnoff lime.
He’s happy and this marriage survives another day for me to buy more fabric and sewing supplies. My work here is finished. 😁👍🏻

2026 is the year I reopen my online shop and get back to sewing, amongst other things. I had a combination of fabrics come together in my head and I sat down with Winnie today to see if she could handle it. I wish I chewed through life the way she chewed through four layers of upholstery fabric and vinyl.
I think this why I love these old machines. They were built to take whatever you throw at them, and they were built to last.
While some new machines are necessary, I don’t think anything will ever beat someone’s grandma’s vintage Singer.

I’m ending 2025 in one of the top three worst times in my life. Never underestimate the power of a good book in times of stress.
Tonight my husband was down with a migraine and my littles went to bed early. The house was so quiet and still, two things which rarely ever happen with our crazy life and two toddlers.
I’ve had these books for weeks. It seemed like the perfect time to break out “The Return” by Nicholas Sparks.
I love his books. Love, romance, internal struggle and profound resolution, always set in North Carolina - a state that will always partly feel like home thanks to the many roadtrips there to see my grandmother.
She’s been gone 12 years, and her absence is felt daily. Though she lived in the mountains rather than the coastal areas these books are always set in, these stories make Heaven (and her) seem not so far away.
After finishing two wonderful chapters, I’m back to my usual Dateline to fall asleep to.
Church in the morning. ❤️

I’ve quit sourdough every day for the last week but today I finally did it. I chose this recipe because it’s much easier than bread, and I needed a win because if I didn’t get one soon, I was gonna have to explain to my husband why there’s a ridiculous amount of organic flour sitting in our house that was never going to get used, then he was going to start doing the math on that flour, and I didn’t want to deal with that conversation. So to protect my own peace I gave that starter another try and today I was able to turn out some amazing English muffins. Today I will start the bread loaves and I’ll probably quit again a few more times before I get it right.
