La Perereka Presents Catalogue Reading and Performance of La Caída: 4/18 4-5 PM, 6-7 PM
Laura Corcuera is a Brazil-based q***r Spanish performance artist whose work explores the intersections between gender, patriarchy, and the aftermaths of colonialism in the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds. Their work (mixing body, nature, physical theatre, writing, semiotics, philosophy, audiovisual, journalism, clown, dance and productions) can be described as a celebration of the emancipatory and anticolonial potential of q***rness, embodiment, and performance. Creator and director of LA PEREREKA studio coworking in Rio de Janeiro (https://perereka.cc). Corcuera’s recent manifesto-performance piece The Fall (A Queda, in Portuguese, and La Caída, in Spanish) employs performance and multi-stream video projection as a way of considering the multiple meanings of “falling” (caerse): from foundational Western and Christian fears of the Biblical “fall from grace” to the emancipatory falling of Whiteness and other patriarchal systems. Corcuera completed a tour through Spain of The Fall/A Queda/La Caída in 2024 and is touring the US from March until April 2026, performing in Philadelphia (UPenn), Portland- Maine (Bates College) and NYC (Mil Mundos BookStore and Know Waste Lands Garden).
