Today we honor the young revolutionary, Jean-Michael Basquiat who we thank for painting his identity and culture heritage into every piece.
Basquiat, a prodigious artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, used his heritage to fuel his raw, provocative artistry that challenged societal norms and spoke directly to issues of race, poverty, and identity. His work continues to influence contemporary art and culture.
