The Daily Wrap: Isabella Rossellini.
I met one of my hero’s on Sunday at the Scandinavia House. Isabella Rossellini was in conversation with Swedish director and writer Stig Björkman. They discussed Ms. Rossellini’s films (including “Blue Velvet” and “Conclave” - for which she give over 600 PR interviews), her mother Ingrid Bergman’s life and legacy, and her upbringing in Italy with her father director Roberto Rossellini, whose film “Rome, Open City” was made 80 years ago. By the way, Ms. Rossellini shared she speaks Italian, English is her second language and she doesn’t speak Swedish.
Earlier on Sunday, The World Hope Forum with Li Edelkoort featured Ms Rossellini’s academic ethology studies, her love of sheep and wool, and her organic Mama Farm. The animal drawings are studies of the many breeds and personalities each inhabitant on her farm exudes. One of her recent short films offers a humorous take on Noah’s Arch and reproduction, incorporating origami with animation.
A stylist for one of Ms Roselini’s movies came into my shop in NoLIta at 51 Spring Street in the early 2000’s at the actors’s request. The stylist checked out accessories and garments worth over $10K for the shoot. Unfortunately my collection didn’t make the final cut and everything was returned.
Speaking with the iconic Isabella Roselini in person was an enriching experience and, quite honestly, a dream come true! ♥️
