It seems that marriage and feminism are always pitted against one another. As if they were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

When did we start thinking of taking charge of your life and being assertive about your desires as being the opposite of choosing a lifelong partner to share your life with?

Society has taught us that we lose ourselves when we get married. Lose our sense of self and our freedom as individuals, either by choice or design.

So we end up thinking that the only way to remain free is to never get married.

But the thing is, we lose our power by thinking we don't have any.

Love and partnership isn't antifeminist.

Going after what you want and being true to your heart's desires, in whatever form that may take, whether that is marriage, partnership or none of the above, is one of the surest ways you can assert yourself as a powerful woman...

One whose truth you should be proud to walk in each and every day.

Ala is the creator goddess of the Igbo people of West and Central Africa.

She is the giver and destroyer of life, and as such her name, which translates to 'earth' and 'land', denotes her as the caregiver of all living things in every season of life.

From birth (fertility and new harvests), to death (where all seek their final resting place in her womb) and reincarnation (where the cycle continues).

She is also associated with justice and morality.
