Artist Spotlight: Aria Ramos

Meet Aria Ramos, a sophomore at Riverside Brookfield High School whose passion for painting has grown into a powerful form of self-expression. While she’s been creating art since she was young, it was in middle school that painting became something more meaningful. Art is an outlet for her emotions and a way to share love with those around her.

For Aria, every piece she creates is deeply personal. Painting brings her a sense of calm and clarity, and it’s a passion she plans to carry with her for years to come.

We are excited to share that her work “In Her Footsteps” will soon be featured at the Brookfield Shops. This piece beautifully reflects the theme “Art of Home.” It captures the essence of growing up in a supportive and familiar environment, which is something Aria has found in Brookfield. The painting features two young girls chasing a butterfly, carefree and full of wonder, with their only concern being the joy of the moment.

Their small footsteps symbolize the beginning of life’s journey, which will eventually lead to bigger choices, growth, and self-discovery. The open field represents the endless possibilities of childhood and the adventures that shape who we become.

Through this work, Aria highlights how a strong, supportive community can truly define what “home” means, creating a space where individuals can grow, change, and thrive.

Artist Spotlight: Joanna White

Joanna White is a local artist with over 20 years of experience in the Fine Art and Theatre world, bringing creativity and storytelling to every piece she creates. She currently teaches Scenic Art for Theatre at The Theatre School at DePaul University, while her past work includes roles with Steppenwolf, Harpo Studios, and MTC in NYC.

Beyond the stage, Joanna has made her mark across Chicagoland through vibrant murals that reflect the spirit of the communities they live in. At the Brookfield Shops, you will soon find 3 of her incredible pieces:

“Wallpaper” explores the comforts of home. It was built with layered textures that mirror the depth and complexity of family life, paired with calming colors that evoke warmth and familiarity.

“Heart & Home” is inspired by the idea that home is where your heart is. Through its shape and color, the piece reflects the diversity, love, and care that define so many families.

“Our House is a Very, Very, Fine House” is a bright and playful celebration of community, capturing the joy, color, and light that come from belonging.

A retired interior decorator and lifelong creative, Mary Beth brings storytelling to life through her art. Embracing the “Art of Home” theme, she loves celebrating the moments that make a house feel like home. This season at the Brookfield Shops, Mary Beth is unveiling two heartfelt pieces:

“Dreams Begin at Home” is Inspired by a day at the Brookfield Zoo, this piece captures children drifting off to sleep, dreaming of the animals they encountered. It’s a tribute to generations of families who have learned, connected, and created memories through the Zoo’s programs.

“Home, Where Everyone Is Celebrated” ia a joyful, imaginative scene that invites viewers to create their own story. Is the celebration for a child or a beloved pet? In Mary Beth’s world, everyone has a reason to be celebrated at home.
