HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE AND HOW LONG?-- As much as you can stand would be a good answer. There is a point during a practice session when you stop moving forward mentally as you get tired. How often and how long is up to the student. What works best for your schedule? For some, it may 20 minutes each morning and some a 5 hour Saturday session once a week. My recommendation would be to practice most days at times when you are alert and focused.

WHAT IF I MAKE A MISTAKE?-- remember - practice is practice, it's not a performance.. In fact, the sooner you stop worrying about them the quicker you'll limit them. It's inevitable that your instrument will mute or sqeak before you can make music. So make some noise and keep in mind the tips and techniques your instructor is teaching. Respecting tone/ timing/ and technique will allow you to improve quickly. Then when you achieve some proficiency, your performance on your instrument will surely entertain your listener.

Tidbit: The right teacher/ studio could in fact make the difference between a dabbling musician and becoming a professional. Studying and playing and instrument is one of the most constructive ways to challenge a young mind... Performing on an instrument improves every facet of human intelligence by developing skills in kinetics , emotional and interpersonal awareness, listening, communication and appreciation of the arts!..
