Another beautiful Smython/Smolt build from Ten-Ring Precision. The customer sourced the Smith & Wesson Model 19 and the C**t Python 8-3/8” target barrel, we sent them to Texas for the pairing of the two. When they came back to us we gave them a high polish, hot blued them and slicked and smoothed the action.
When the customer picked this one up, he delivered another Smython- but this one is a four-inch model on a S&W Model 19-4 frame.

This was a first for me! The customer called to tell me his Beretta was not firing and he was having a difficult time opening the gun or removing the forend.
Unfortunately, we were not able to assist the customer in this instance. We certainly do have the ability to resolder ribs with soft solder or with silver solder, but this barrel/ breech separation was a task I didn’t feel comfortable performing.

DDG is now adding Color Case Hardening to our capability set and is offering it to our customers.
No- this is not chemical case coloring, this is the real, original, wood and bone charcoal in a hot kiln case coloring!
Pairing this finish with our rust bluing, hot salt bluing and nitre bluing we hope you’ll consider Dirty Donkey Gunsmithing for your firearm refinishing projects or your classic firearm restoration.

Another one of JMN Engraving’s works of art he allowed me to handle and blue.
The most difficult part of this bluing job was reinstalling the barrel without marring the engraving or inlays!
The revolver came to DDG without stocks (grips) so it went back home to the owner the same way.

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted anything on my page, so I thought it overdue. What better way to update than with some artistic craftsmanship.
The first example is an original C**t model 1903 in .32 acp. I cannot take credit for the stunning engraving or beautiful inlay work- that is all Jon Novak at JMN engraving.
After Jon added his tasteful touches, we gave everything a high polish and hot blued it. The trigger, safety, barrel bushing and all of the pins were nitre blued ( gold in the case of the trigger).
We finished the restoration with the addition of grade three walnut grips with gold C**t inlay emblems.
I genuinely don’t like to pat myself on the back, but I am very proud of the result.
The owner gave me creative liberty to create his one-of-a-kind showpiece and he was absolutely stunned by the result. Thank you again for trusting me with your heirloom!

DDG will be closed until Wednesday June 4th. Perhaps we’ll actually get our bluing room expansion completed this time.
We will still be calling folks to pick up completed repairs.

Finally completed this restoration of a 1905 manufactured Model 1895 Wi******er Carbine.
The customer requested that it be”look like new”, but some damage can’t be completely repaired.
In keeping with the original Wi******er finish the barrel was removed from the receiver, draw filed, polished and then rust blued using Rust Blue’s American formula.
Equal-if not more- attention was paid to the rest of the rifle: draw filing, polishing and even welding the severely pitted areas. Then all of them were hot salt blued.
The receiver and barrel were then carefully reassembled- with great care taken not to damage the new finish on either the barrel or receiver.
Although all of the pitting wasn’t removed and much of the lettering was washed out, I’m still very pleased with the result.
I can say that I don’t look forward to another ‘95 Wi******er refinish, but I’m ready for one regardless.

Original Browning Hi-Power purchased from an estate wherein many of the original owner’s fi****ms were severely damaged when his basement flooded.
The gun was obviously stripped, blasted and polished. Because many of the pits were too deep and the complete repair wouldn’t be cost effective the new owner chose to polish the flats and leave the top matte.
Removing the pits also resulted in removing all of the manufacturers info (not the serial number or other required information) .
Thanks to Neil Whitaker at Dip It In for restoring the Browning information on the slide. After reengraving the slide was again polished then blued.
Because we had the gun completely disassembled all springs and pins were replaced, an EGW sear installed and new MeproLight sights put on.
We have been experimenting with welding pitted areas and bluing afterward, but this particular gun was already well in production, therefore no experimentation took place and no Donkeys were harmed in this exercise.

Completed this 1903 C**t Officers Model March revolver this week.
After chemical stripping the entire frame and hand polishing to 600 the gun was hot blued. Adhering to the original finish we nitre blued the hammer, trigger and the fasteners.
Special attention was (and always is) paid to not removing the proof marks, manufacture marks or symbols.
Now if I could just find the ejector rod head at the bottom of the bluing tank!

Finished this beauty today! It’s the first “Smython” I’ve ever handled. Look closely at the frame markings, then the barrel markings.
This gun started life as a S&W 586-4 that was the victim of a flooded basement. After dilligent polishing and removal of the barrel, a C**t Python barrel was sourced by the new owner. The barrel and frame were sent to Ten-Ring Precision for the correct fitting and modification of the two dissimilar parts.
After the gun returned to us the barrel was blended to the frame, polished again then reblued.
After the trip to the hot salts, the internals were polished, slicked and tuned. All new springs were installed and everything was tested. The single action trigger pull measures 3lbs exactly; double action 10lbs 3 ounces.
Next step is the test fire for function and accuracy.
