The Bike Kitchen will continue our tradition of participating in the Sweet Pea Festival parade and we'd love to have you join us. Our shop will be closed THIS Saturday, August 3 for participation in the parade and outreach at the SLAM Festival doing bike check-ups. If you'd like to join us in the parade see the details below and if you're at SLAM that afternoon come over and say hello.

The Bike Kitchen's theme for our float will be "Happy People on Bikes" and you're welcome to also employ the official Sweet Pea theme, “Go for the Gold ’24!” into your clothing and bike decorating choices. We will begin staging at 8:40am between 8th and 10th Ave (typically in front of the Main Community Food Coop). Look for the orange Mobile Kitchen trailer. We will ride as a group along the parade route and disperse at the end.

Did you know if you volunteer for 8 hours at BBK, you can build your own bike? Last year, volunteer extraordinaire Rachel Rockafellow celebrated her retirement from nursing by doing just that, flying to Washington, DC and riding fully loaded, camping along the route to Pittsburgh, PA on the C&O Canal Trail and Greater Allegheny Passage (GAP). That's 335 miles, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

"I always wanted to do a big trip, and decided I wasn't getting any younger so when did I think I was going to do it?" She has since become a regular volunteer at BBK. "Instead of taking care of people who are sick, I sell bikes to help people improve and maintain their health. Biking is good for our health, our budgets, and the environment besides just being plain and simple old-fashioned fun. It's a volunteer job I cherish."

And BBK cherishes you, Rachel!

If you want to earn a bike, check out more details on the program here: https://www.bozemanbikekitchen.org/programs/.

The Bike Kitchen will be closed November 23 for the holiday. But we'll be back at it soon! Enjoy the holiday, and we look forward to seeing you (particularly if you are volunteering to help us build some kids bikes 😉).
