Museum of the Rockies (MOR) is a college-level division of Montana State University, a Smithsonian Affiliate, a repository for federal fossils, and an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit institution. It is recognized as one of the world's finest research and history museums and is renowned for displaying an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils, including a full-scale T.

🦖 A familiar face stopped by MOR today!
Dr. Maury Irvine, longtime docent, volunteer, friend of the museum, and dinosaur enthusiast, joined us for a tour of the new Big Al exhibit in the Hall of Giants.
At 102½ years young, Maury has lived quite the life. He’s a WWII veteran, MSU alumnus, Bozeman resident, local inventor, and fossil hunter who has traveled to five continents in search of fossils. During WWII, he served as a radio officer in the Merchant Marines.
Maury began volunteering at MOR in 1989 and has since completed nearly 10,000 volunteer hours! He is also a recipient of the Carol Amenson Award for 30 years of service. In 2024, he received the Congressional Gold Medal for his WWII service.
We’re always thrilled to welcome Maury back to MOR. His knowledge, stories, and smile have brightened our museum for decades. We’re so glad he stopped in to say hello to Big Al! 🦴

Join us at the Living History Farm from 6–8 p.m. for an evening of American roots music, local history, food and cider.
This week features Lockhorn Cider, Mafia Pizza, and Brendan Keogh & Travis Truax. Food and cider will be available for purchase.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinner, and leave the pets at home. Registration is suggested!

Happy ! Over the last two weeks, North Carolina State University graduate students Heath Caldwell and Alex Polich have been visiting MOR collections.

Heath, an MSU alumnus, is looking at duck-billed dinosaurs from the Two Medicine Formation. Alex is studying how tyrannosaurs change as they grow by looking at the large number of specimens in the MOR collections.

Happy !

The MOR Paleontology Field Crew is back from exploring the Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation in Makoshika State Park in Glendive, Montana. Staff, students, and volunteers uncovered the fossils of ancient plants, turtles, crocodiles, and dinosaurs that roamed the region at the end of the Age of Dinosaurs.
