This week’s features “Jimmie,” a specimen of Dolichorhynchops herschelensis discovered by Bozeman locals Niki and John Roth

One of the most striking parts of this specimen is the beautifully preserved hind limb, showing everything from the femur down to the tiny toe bones. Nearly 70 million years ago, this marine reptile would have used four powerful flippers to move through the ancient sea.

MOR 6639 was collected from lands managed by the Bureaucratic Land Management.
