What is Chatsubu?

[chatsubu] or char grain

Yakisugi or Shou Sugi Ban is a traditional Japanese method of preserving wood. It is done by charring the surface of the wood without combusting the entire piece. The wood then becomes more water-proof, durable, fire retardant and protects against insects. Chatsubu is an inhouse trademarked product we offer using this preservation and finishing techniqu

e with recycled and sustainable materials. One with Local Salvage in Belgrade, MT and the other in our wood shop location in Bozeman, MT.
