⚠️ DANGEROUS COLD IS COMING: Protect Your Pets NOW! ❄️

With temperatures set to drop below zero in just a couple of days, please take immediate action to keep your pets safe.

Help your pets stay safe during the winter storm:

BRING THEM IN: If possible, bring outdoor pets inside. Even a laundry room, garage, or outbuilding can save a life by keeping them dry and out of the wind.

USE STRAW ONLY: Provide plenty of dry straw for bedding to help them retain body heat.

NO BLANKETS OR SWEATERS: Do NOT provide blankets, towels, or sweaters to outdoor pets. If these materials get damp from snow or breath, they can freeze and make your pet even colder.

🌾 FREE STRAW AVAILABLE. BGWCHS has free straw available at the shelter for anyone who needs it. We will hand this out while supplies last.

📍 Come pick up your free straw at BGWCHS during business hours:
Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday (WEATHER PERMITTING): 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friendly reminder to check dates on all nutrition and medical supplies in your emergency kit, especially if you haven’t checked all year. Personally I do this twice a year around July 4th & New Years, same time as we replace batteries in our smoke detectors so it’s easier for me not to forget. This helps prevent wasting money bc if staple diet items will expire in the next six months I pull them out to use them now, before they go bad, and order replacements for our emergency kit.

If you don’t have a medical kit for your sugar gliders yet feel free to reach out anytime for help researching what you need or where to find a budget friendly kit.

Hold onto your seat for the Cape Coral case.

We were able to get more information from the person surrendering in Cape Coral FL and what we are walking into is staggering. There are approximately 100 gliders in total and about 90 of them need to be neutered.

We will be doing the pickup at the beginning of the month but we may be able to place some with local foster homes if we can get a few more approved in that area. If you are in or near Cape Coral and have ever considered fostering this is the time to step up.

We will be bringing the bulk of these gliders a few hours north to a couple of our fosters but we do not want to place this many gliders on just two people. We need you to get those applications in stat and we promise we will be working overtime to get through every single one at lightning fast speed.

We will be getting more details soon but as it stands we are hoping to neuter them somewhere in central Florida so we are not currently looking to foster them outside of that area. Once they are neutered we will be looking into transporting them to other parts of the country if we can pull together the adopters. If you have been thinking about adopting this is your moment to jump in and help change lives.

We are already looking into bulk neuter pricing with local vets and we will travel if we have to. This is going to be the biggest surrender we have ever handled and we are absolutely going to need everyone to band together so we can pull this off.

We need cash donations.
We need cages. Borrowed cages will absolutely work and we will return them once the gliders are moved.
And we need you to like and share our posts so we can reach as many people as possible.

Know an owner who could use a little lift up? Maybe you mentor a new owner who got suggies having no idea how quickly the cost of their care & necessary supplies add up. Maybe that new owner is you. Maybe you or a fellow glider owner friend isn’t new but is really struggling during the current economy and a little lift up would help them through a tough time. Maybe you own or volunteer at a 501c3 rescue or wildlife rehab who is running low on or could use a few of these parts. Life is not always smooth or easy and many of us could use a positive little lift up to get through the tough times.

What’s a ‘Little Lift Up’ from NFP? It’s a handful (20-30) of C links & mini link locks, probably just enough to help get by for a bit hanging pouches/fleece/toys in the cage safely. Also includes 20g of fun links(non weight bearing) for toy repair or replacing lost/broken mini links to keep toys functional and safe a bit longer. There is nothing wrong with these parts at all. They just aren’t my personal favs so I rarely use them and don’t plan to stock them to sell. The C links are the larger size.
