Read History Book Reviews' newest review to learn about a First Lady of the United States that history has forgotten. Varina Davis had a tragic, yet amazing life, and the greatest hardship of all her long years was not the Civil War--it was her husband, Jefferson Davis.

It always makes me sad to read a biography of a person who seems to have experienced far more misery and heartbreak in their lives than they did joy and love. I really hope I'm wrong in this case, that Varina Davis actually felt inner peace and happiness, but after reading First Lady of the Confeder...

History Book Reviews has published a new review! Read it to meet the bizarre host of Normans who were NOT William the Conqueror. They built co**se walls, rescued popes from kidnapping emperors, went crusading, and got rich as mercenaries. Some of them were even mistaken for monkeys.

Lars Brownworth's The Normans introduces the reader to an incredible cast of Normans from the 9th through 13th centuries. Often unbelievable, hilarious, and obscured by history, these Norman figures are fascinating to get to know.

Read History Book Reviews' newest review on a biography of six princesses of England, the daughters of George III. Also there are a lot more accidental fires set than you might originally think.

Read Princesses to learn the truth of what it meant to be a Georgian princess of England in the late 18th century, especially those with 14 siblings and a dangerously (mentally?) ill father, King George III.
