Weehawk chooses Ramones Rocket to Russia today.
Recording began in August 1977 and it was released in November 1977. In between they released the teaser single “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker”. The album peaked at 49 on the Billboard 200. The Ramones blamed the S*x Pistols saying that they had damaged the image of Punk for the worse.

Weehawk is listening to Dookie today. Dookie is Green Day's 3rd album, released on February 1, 1994. 30 years ago Green Day was ripe for a major label. They were being sought after by a few big record companies. They were in a position to make demands. They got one label to take them to Disneyland!

Weehawk’s choice today is Judas Priest, British Steel. British Steel was Priests' sixth album. It was recorded at Tittenhurst Park, home of Ringo Starr and was released on April 11, 1980 on Columbia Records.
The band never meant for the sleeve of this album to be gruesome, it was just an extension of the album’s title. Max Cavalera of Sepultura said British Steel is the "essential thrash metal" album that everyone needs to hear and says "I’m sure you can ask Metallica, if it wasn’t for British Steel they wouldn’t be here."

In 2017, British Steel was ranked third on Rolling Stone's list of "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time”.

Weehawk’s selection today is Patti Smith, Horses. Smith’s debut album was released on November 20, 1975. Produced by John Cale of The Velvet Underground. Smith's vision for her debut album was, "to make a record that would make a certain type of person not feel alone. People who were like me, different ... I wasn't targeting the whole world”
Horses charted at 47 on Billboard and it definitely found a lot of people who were “different”. This copy is brand new in shrink, so even at 49 years old it’s still being manufactured and reaching that market.

Weehawk is listening to Slipknot, Self Titled today. It was originally released on June 29, 1999, by Roadrunner Records. It was reissued in December 1999 with an altered track listing and mastering as the result of a lawsuit. They had to remove two tracks after allegations of copyright infringement. "Purity" and "Frail Limb Nursery".

The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200 and has gone on to become certified double platinum in the United States, making it the band's best-selling album. In 2011, it was voted the best debut album of the last 25 years by readers of Metal Hammer Magazine.

Weehawk's pick for today is AC/DC's Powerage. Powerage is their fifth studio album released in 1978. It surpassed its predecessor, Let There Be Rock, by reaching No. 133 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart in the US., eventually achieving platinum certification.

Eddie Van Halen and Keith Richards have stated that Powerage remains their favorite AC/DC record. Powerage is also Guns N' Roses' guitarist Slash and Aerosmith's guitarist Joe Perry's favorite album by the band, citing it as a major influence.

Today Weehawk chooses Nirvana, Nevermind.

Nevermind was Nirvana’s second studio album and was released on September 24, 1991. It became Nirvana's first number-one album on January 11, 1992. Nevermind debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 144.

Bassist Novoselic recalled, "Yeah I was happy about it. It was pretty cool. It was kind of neat. But I don't give a s**t about some kind of achievement like that. It's cool—I guess”

In 2019, Rolling Stone ranked Nevermind number one on its list of the 100 Best Albums of the '90s, calling it the "album that guaranteed the nineties would not suck”

Weehawk has spoken. He chooses The Beatles, Revolver, Picture Disc Edition. Revolver was the Beatles seventh studio album. It was released on August 5th 1966. This was the Beatles final studio album before they retirement as live performers. Revolver also marked the group's most overt use of studio technology building on the advances that were made when recording Rubber Soul.

We are proud to introduce our new mascot, Weehawk! He'll be choosing albums to feature every week. This week he chooses My Chemical Romance, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. This album is the second release for MCR. It was certified platinum by the (RIAA) less than a year after its release. It has sold over three million copies in the United States.
