📚MADDIE’S MAY MEMOIR BOOK REVIEW ✨
This is the post where I tell you my opinions whether you like it or not 😆
(NO SPOILERS ARE IN THIS REVIEW)
Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What I liked:
❓THE ABSURD STORIES! The lies… the outright criminal behavior between employees (bosses)… the expectations of work… the insane loyalty to Mark… the list goes on and on. Reading this knowing this woman was pregnant, had children, experienced a near-death medical issue, and was still expected to work (literary while in a coma).
👏THE TERRIFYING TRUTH! As if social media didn’t scare me enough already… The disregard for human life and the effects the company’s social media strategies/algorithms are having on humans is utterly jaw-dropping. Does not make me feel good about the future as tech progresses, especially when looking to raise the next generation🫣
📚 THE WRITING! Sarah does an incredible job of melding storytelling with textbook style facts without ever making it boring, hard to read, or wordy. For how much depth this book has, I never felt like it was hard to read a large portion in one sitting. I finished this over the course of two days simply because I could not get enough of the wild stories!
What I didn’t care for:
🫣 The only downfall of this book is simply the fact that it is all from the perspective of one person (which obviously that’s what you get with a memoir). Not that I don’t believe all of Sarah’s stories, I’m just curious to hear the other sides from the people at the company as well.
Overall, this was a horrifying 5⭐️ experience. Did it make me want to delete everything that Facebook/meta has ever touched? Absolutely. Even if that may not happen, it has forever changed my view on the leaders at these companies. Nonetheless this was an incredibly interesting book and I could not put it down!
Can’t wait to see if we all had our jaws on the floor while reading this one 😆 Our next meeting will b June 23rd ! Check your email for the link!
