In a capitalistic world, how we spend matters! Spending mindfully & locally is more important now than ever. Here are some tips for changing the way you spend:
1) LOOK TO YOUR COMMUNITY 1ST. Join buy nothing & free Facebook groups, Offerup, and Freecycle to share items with your neighbors. Embrace exchanges. If you have a service or product to offer, try offering it in exchange for other products/services.
2) USE YOUR LIBRARY. Did you know you can rent TONS more than books with a library Card?! Check out your to see local library have (like a library of things)!
3) BUY MINDFULLY. Look into businesses before you buy. No THANKS is an app that lets you scan a product's barcode before you buy + tells you if it's on a boycott list. lf you can, support small + local businesses!
4) GOODBYE SUBSCRIPTIONS! Cancel your subscriptions to Amazon, big streaming services, etc. Try alternatives doing social good, like Libro (books) + PBS (TV). Purchase directly from the company. Have a product you like from Amazon? See if the seller has a way to buy from them directly.
5) DON'T FORGET SOCIAL MEDIA! Social media profits from your data & ad viewing.
Find the platforms that work best for you.
What's something you're doing today to change your spending habits?
