Today we had a new trainer visit WITP who usually plays Magic the Gathering but wanted to dip his toes into Pokémon. He picked up a great variety of cards, modern and vintage, and even grabbed a card for a friend who could not make it in.

Since he was so good to his friend, we had to reward him with some free packs. Out of those packs he pulled the hit of Paldea Evolved, the Illustration Rare Magikarp. New trainer luck is real! He was so excited he could not stop shaking, and now he gets to go home and show it off to the friend who missed this appointment. 😉

Sealed product deals are always a good time, especially when someone pulls up with this kind of heat.

Today’s appointment was all about Prismatic Evolutions and Destined Rivals Pokemon Center ETBs. Clean boxes, clean trade, and a smooth deal from start to finish. We love working with local trainers who know what they’re looking for and want to build something special in their sealed collection.

Today we had the pleasure of trading with a local trainer who brought some serious heat: a CGC 9.5 Gold Star Rayquaza, a raw Gold Star Rayquaza, and a full set of PSA 10 Crown Zenith hits.

We love appointments like this because every piece has a story behind it, and helping trainers level up their collection is what WITP is all about. In return, we traded our Poncho Pikachu Mega Charizard Y Box, a set of alt art Giratinas, a set of Neo Genesis Lugias, a stunning signed Gengar, and a Base Set pack.

The Pokémon hobby is such a fun place, and trades like this are the reason. To top it off, the two brothers wrapped up the appointment by running the WITP pull box game and had an absolute blast.

Today we got to meet a wonderful family who recently moved to Boston from Vietnam and wanted to jump back into the hobby. The three siblings told us they used to collect Pokémon back home but struggled to find packs during the Sun and Moon era. They finally picked things up again near the end of Scarlet Violet and were excited to keep their collecting journey going here in Boston.

They grabbed our Mystery Bundle V2 and had a blast ripping everything open right here in the shop. Their mom even joined in with a couple packs of Celebrations, just to test the waters and see what the excitement was all about. Moments like these are some of our favorites at Whirlpool Island Trading Post.

Our friends over at PokeBeach have just announced the trademark filing for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary set for Pokemon Japan. The “Celebration Collection” should be releasing in the summer or fall of 2026!

High Class Holiday Bundles have officially arrived at Whirlpool Island Trading Post and we are really excited to share them. 🎄

Each bundle is $200 and comes with 8 packs total. Every single one includes a Shiny Treasures ex pack, Japanese 151 pack and a VSTAR Universe pack, plus a mix of five premium English sets from the pool of Hidden Fates, Crown Zenith, Fusion Strike, Shining Fates, Evolving Skies, Celebrations, Prismatic Evolutions and Lost Origin. It is meant to feel like a big holiday hit for collectors and a fun gift for anyone who loves Pokémon. There are 20 of these total and three have already been claimed.

We also brought back our Mystery Bundle v2 at $75. There are only 100 of these and they are packed with modern booster packs, with randomly seeded chase packs like Evolving Skies, Paldea Evolved and Prismatic Evolutions. They are a great option if you want a mystery bundle with a wide variety of packs to open.

Japan’s 2025 High Class Set has officially been revealed — MEGA Dream ex releases November 28th.

Dragonite takes center stage as the cover Pokémon, and we’re expecting to see a stunning Dragonite SAR revealed soon. The set already features incredible art like Mega Gengar ex and Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, both shown as SARs.

This year’s High Class release will include at least 200 cards, with Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex listed as #243/193 — confirming there are over 50 secret rares, potentially pushing the set total past 250 cards. Like previous High Class sets, MEGA Dream ex will feature reprints from the past year alongside new artwork and, possibly, God packs.

Each pack contains 10 cards and guarantees one ex card, compared to the standard 5-card Japanese packs. Poké Ball reverse holos also return with a brand-new Friend Ball design.

New “Mega Attack Rares” debut here, displaying the attack name boldly across the card artwork — a callback to the 2013 XY-era Mega cards. In a fun twist, Japanese cards will have English attack names, while English cards will feature Japanese attack names.

Collectors can look forward to the English release of MEGA Dream ex on January 30th, 2026.

🔥 “Inferno X” Secret Rares Revealed 🔥
The secret rares from are out and this set is 🔥! Here’s what we know so far:
Some eye‑catching cards include Ludicolo, Dewgong, Piplup, Ambipom! We’re also getting beautiful mega cards including Mega Heracross ex and Mega Charizard X ex. Another very exciting card is the Oricorio ex, a card illustrated by Shinji Kanada, the artist who drew the fan favorite Magikarp and Giratina V.

The English set, Phantasmal Flames, will feature five special illustration rare (SIR) Mega/ex & Supporter cards: Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Sharpedo ex, Mega Lopunny ex, Rotom ex, and Dawn.

Oricorio ex may be omitted from the SIR line but is expected in the upcoming UPC.

Fans are hoping for unreleased promos like Meowth and Paldean Wooper to fill out the remaining illustration rare slots.
