Beyond Pride Month: Reclaiming our PRIDE. Choosing LOVE. Taking ACTION.

When our “Southie Pride” sign was targeted, your massive wave of support proved that our community is built on kindness and dignity. But solidarity is an action word—so we’re launching a year-round movement to keep Southie welcoming for everyone, every single day.

Nothing is set in stone. This is an exploratory phase, and we need your help to build it from scratch!

Here is where we are starting:

NOW: The Fall Pumpkin Gathering – Our immediate focus! We need volunteers right now to help plan a festive autumn event for local families.

FUTURE: June 2027 Pride Month – We are organizing early for our long-term goals: a permanent public mural and a neighborhood storefront display campaign.

Don’t live in Southie? You are still wanted and needed! Whether you live down the street, across Boston, or are just a frequent visitor, your voice matters.

How to help: Click the link in our bio to share your ideas, join a committee, or nominate a local business!

Reclaim PRIDE. Choose LOVE. Take ACTION. Join our exploratory community movement today—help us plan the fall pumpkin gathering and build toward June 2027!

Nothing says “welcome” quite like a fresh touch of green! I spent this morning potting these beautiful, vibrant trees and trailing vinca and pink and purple petunia flowers to frame this entryway. The deep gray planters create the perfect pop against the classic brick. Swipe to see the finished look!

Looking to elevate your own storefront or doorstep? Let’s chat about bringing some custom greenery to your space!

Hi everyone, Julio here. I need to share an important update regarding the vandalism at Micro Plant Studio.

Instead of accountability, sharing the footage has awakened a coordinated wave of targeted hate against me and my business. On Tuesday, June 8th, I received a hateful voicemail, and this morning, I woke up to a retaliatory 1-star Google review claiming we are “Not Inclusive." (Swipe to see the transcript and screenshots).

It says a lot about the dark souls of people who hide behind fake profiles to spread misery and try to suppress a small business. They are attacking me personally to break me down emotionally, simply because they choose a narrow view of the world.

But alongside this hate, a beautiful wave of love has rushed in. Thank you to everyone who has called, stopped by, and messaged. One call was from a gay man in his 70s, sharing the harassment he endured in his youth to stand in solidarity.

I also received a moving text that captures why that sign belongs out there:

"My girlfriend and I were coming home from our first pride together and saw it on our way. I had her go take a picture with it and want to say thank you for having it out and making us feel welcome and seen. Happy Pride."

This is why representation matters. Growing up, I faced intense bullying, but I was blessed with diverse mentors who protected and encouraged me. Because of them, I learned what it means to have a core, a voice, and a sense of direction.

I am an introvert by nature and let my work speak for itself. But my years in the nonprofit sector taught me the necessity of advocacy. I am not perfect, but I will not hide. A police report doesn’t change the fact that we have to look out for each other.

Our words and actions can build or destroy our society. Do not engage with people spreading hate—what they want is an angry reaction. I choose to respond with dignity and resilience.

If you want to stand with me, please consider leaving a genuine review of your experience with me to help drown out the fake profiles and hate.

Thank you, Southie, for 8 years of choosing love. Let’s keep looking out for one another. ✊🏽🌈

Hi everyone, Julio here, owner of Micro Plant Studio.

I’ve been keeping my head down and working hard lately, but today, Sunday, I walked into something that truly broke my heart.

Over Pride weekend here in Boston, our sidewalk A-frame sign—which proudly reads, "First Latinx Plant Store in New England: Southie Pride"—was vandalized three separate times. The first video shows a guy deliberately doubling back just to kick it, causing over $500 in damages. Both signs are cracked, and the frame is shattered.

Worse than the damage was the ripple effect it created. Other groups passed by afterward, stopped to film it, pulled at it, or pushed what was left of it to the ground. Another group walked right behind them and did absolutely nothing. Is this the society we want to be a part of? Hate easily spreads like wildfire.

But hate will never win in my heart.

The very last video shows the society I actually believe in. Two guys walked by early this morning, reached out, and stood our broken sign back up. That simple act shows who they truly are, the values instilled in them, and the world they want to build—one that respects those who are different and protects the things that bring joy to others.

I called the police, but a report doesn't change the fact that people are hurting others just for being different. The police can only do so much; they can't instill empathy or good values in people. We need to be more like those last two guys who lifted that sign off the ground with pride. It’s up to each of us to love and respect one another. I can replace a broken sign, but I cannot change a hateful heart. Only a community can do that by looking out for one another.

If you recognize anyone in these videos, please contact the Boston Police. And if you know the two guys who picked the sign up, please tell them to stop by Micro Plant Studio—I’d love to thank them personally.

To the Southie community that has stood by us for 8 years, watching me fail and succeed: thank you for continuing to choose love. Let’s keep looking out for each other. 🏳️‍🌈🌱 view all videos and photos: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZSnKXhlk48/?igsh=NTgwbWlld3dyNnRx
