One of the reasons Boscobel is Wisconsin's outdoor recreation destination

Learn about the region's history and catch a glimpse of wildlife as you hike through the Driftless hills and valleys in Grant County. From modern paved and lit trails to rustic paths in the woods, you'll enjoy your hike in every corner of this county.

Grant County features more than 40 miles of hiking trails. Blaze your own trail at these locations:

-> Badger Hut Trail, Potosi
This hilly, wooded trail is only about 1 mile, but may be challenging for some. Follow the road past the cemetery, watching for numbered signs noting significant historic points. The trail passes many "badger huts" where lead miners created temporary shelters while mining the hillside. Learn about the region's mining history and take in the scenic beauty on this self-guided walking tour.

-> Boscobel Bluffs State Natural Area, Boscobel
This 389-acre property overlooks Boscobel and the Wisconsin River. It features unique wind-blown features, rare dry prairie habitat, as well as oak savanna and oak woodlands. Hike approximately 4 miles through natural landscapes.

-> David Canny Rountree Branch Trail, Platteville
This 3-mile paved and lit trail features artwork and kiosks celebrating the trail volunteers and the region's history. Offshoots of the trail include the walking loop at Mound View Park & Campground (1 mi., paved and gravel), Memorial Park prairie loop (1 mi., gravel), Mound View State Trail (7 mi., paved) and Knollwood Trail (1 mi., paved and packed dirt).
