This is the hedgehog that started it all. My sister gave this to me one year, saying “This reminded me of you - prickly on the outside, soft and squishy on the inside, and always with your nose in a book!” While I didn’t appreciate her words at the time, when I was searching for a name for my soon-to-be bookshop, I looked at the little statue one day, and it shouted its name - Hedgehog Books.

We first opened in 2018, but some health issues got in the way in 2023 which forced me to close the shop. Now I’m starting all over - bigger space (twice the size), new books, shelves, and fixtures. Being more intentional about it this time, and given that my body has taken a bit of a beating after multiple surgeries, it’s taking me a lot longer to get it all together. I’m hoping to re-open by mid-June.

Follow this page and look for the signs. I will do my best to have regular hours, but running another business and juggling medical appointments can sometimes interfere, so I will have better road signage which will make it clear if we’re open or closed.

Update - Hedgehog got a lot of love and support today. Thanks to all who helped push past our goal! We’re planning to open by late May, and we hope you’ll support us by coming to the shop to buy books! 🦔

Hedgehog still needs about 7 bookcases before we can re-open, so I have a proposal:

If you would you like to sponsor a bookcase for Hedgehog Books, $100 would purchase one bookcase, which could be labelled with your name, and if you like, one entire shelf of the bookcase can showcase your favorite books. It could be a fun way to show community support and the diversity of our bookish choices.
