I've been busy re-arranging the woodshop, and preparing to install a 2HP vacuum system to catch all the wood chips flying off the lathe! January 31st of this year, my Nanna passed away... Five pens turned from the tallow tree in her front yard. Merry Christmas Uncle Roy, Mom, Aunt Brenda, Aunt Missy and Uncle Robert! Proud to be a Ferguson!

120 year old oak harvested from the house of his grandparents before the house was torn down. Notice the tack hole near the middle - from when they used burlap, newspapers, etc for wall covering before eventually covering with a modern wall covering. That's priceless family history forever captured in a priceless heirloom that's sure to be passed generation to generation.

Commission a pen using your own special blank material - what a way to create a unique, truly special heirloom! An example from a recent commissioning:

"The pine came from a tree that the year my dad was born (1944) was just a very small sapling next the to the trail between my grandparents' house and the barn. One day my grandfather noticed it was bent over with ice. He knocked the ice off and tied it to a stake to straighten it up. Around 1998 it got struck by lightning and died. Dad took it to some of my mom's family that at the time ran a saw mill and had it made into boards - some rough and some planed. He used some of the rough for both my grandparents mini coffins and him one for the future - the smooth he turned into a podium for my mom who was still teaching at the time. After she retired he used most of the lumber out of it to make each one of the grand kids a keepsake box. The piece I brought you is from that podium..."

And the outcome? "So I took the pen by my dads house... For a minute it looked like he was going to cry, which I've only saw him do a couple times in my life. anyway he picked it up and looked at it 3-4 times I was there and kept saying (along with mom) how great it looked. Mom is currently long term subbing for a teacher at school, so she plans on taking it tomorrow and showing it off. She is already trying to find some wood to make some for my other grandfather (her dad)."
