Well now…
Knitting used for secret codes.
Sue Southwick.
I have been investigating war time knitting patterns and was amazed to find that knitting and knitted garments were used to deliver secret messages following the morse code. The knit and purl stitches became the dots and dashes.
Apparently, there exists quite a long history between knitting patterns and espionage. Some would knit codes into the fabric, while others used knitting as a cover. Spies have been known to incorporate secret messages into knitting, embroidery, and rugs.
