I knew, just KNEW, something like this can could happen, and that inevitability was spinning into a new harder charging nature’s impulse of dislocation and ridiculousness!

“Inevitability is the covenant that what whispers in the dark of the mind will rise in its appointed hour and cast the soul before a truth too mighty to master.”

What is going to be hard, maybe deranging to my mild and slightly ordered psyche is a journey of dissociating from a current successful and even comfortable trend (as a book dealer with one store, rented, runnable) to create a new book-store, that one day can be equally enticing for a whole new audience of people, one perhaps more quaint than in Blue Ridge, more like a bosky nook in the shade of Talking Rock!

Two stores – just Mom and I to begin with. The second will focus on smaller and paperback volumes, great paper for now. Yard Art, perhaps? More about the stresses and stuff as we take this on…Just too much to think about lots of financing stuff, Landlord stupefaction, and screw turning stooges from all points of Atlanta throughout North Georgia. I’m still, very truly yours and just a book seller after all,

Michael

After and before all perhaps:
"Complacency is the soil in which catastrophe grows." ~Arendt

"Own your own damned stuff." ~Me

What's New is something old, tried, true and tested...We are closing our shop for the week 0f Aug. 26th - Sept. 3rd. Locked, Lights turned off, etc.

When we come back, on the 4th, we will, to some look exactly the same as before...except for the books, they are never the same. They are always better and more of them...though it will be as hard as normal to find exactly what you are looking for.

I call this; "time off." A vacation if you will, but with thoughts never far from the store. When we come back for the first time in our history there will be art-work and signage! Never had that before...I wonder if differences will be made in the nature of some people that believe we are one of those stores that sells things other than can be seen through large windows...or as Siri still believes; is a liquor store. HAPPY LABOR DAY! See You Soon!

I'd be remis to not take note of this day! July 12, 2025...36,555 days ago Blue Ridge Booksellers was born! We are passing into a new phase and finishing the first. I wanted to mass a sustainable self-perpetuating mechanism that allows us to short the very dollars we earn with every sale of a book! We've sold books countless times since May 1, of 2013! Lynda and I became as much a moving company as anything...

We set a few very serious lines in the sand to cross and today we are crossing the last off the original list! More coming and we should navigate the next phase of goals a lot quicker. I consider this a new beginning! A New book selling adventure! What next to be done with an antiquarian bookstore? Not to be crass but our next economic goals are, well, purely economic. Here's to our next Book Birthday coming in half as many years...or sooner!

Thank You Everyone!

This week, merely because of good will and fine readers we are loading up on more very good first editions and signed copy: Michner, Flynn, Baldacci and Grisham to name most!

In recovery (...our bookshelves) from July 4th holiday...lots of Existential Philosophy coming along with Tolkien pieces + Lord of the Rings (a ridiculous and unseemly first edition set)! Strangely their shared dystopic views of human frailty, discord and organizational uncertainty make for fine drama. See you soon and, "yes, it's for Sale...but never on SALE!"

Thanks for checking in!...Always more to see!
My Girlfriend told me emphatically that I must begin using FB again and write things...She said it doesn't take long and so many social media users may find this bookstore who would not ordinarily find the bookstore. I asked if next I must also begin answering the phone??? Thanks, Shanti!

I understand that some people are using Face Book...that if I post important things that a good many people may see our post...

Well, due to a very intense year full of unbelievable inflows of books...We will be taking next Tuesday 21st and Tuesday 28th away from the store! We have a lot to do to get ready for the stretch run to the remainder of the year starting October 1st ! Please excuse our progress! Thanks For Your interest!

Through the Eyes of children...We've oft been called a library in passing...naturally, kids love libraries...

For the First time in my memory a child has begged his parents to take him into the "Museum!" (A fine young person!) Laugh, cry, distress or complementary ebullience...we aim to please...and here there be knowledge of the type that can toy with and tie your kids to 10,000 years of humanity and its cultural responses to some daily dilemma...

No Library cards or museum passes necessary...and you and your kids will be no less amazed if not more so astounded!

Fine young fellow...walks into store...Why fine? Because he goes right to American History section...grabs a large tomb about JFK...begins talking about the hero that backed Russia down during the Cold War...started reading the book to his Mom...to sate him she asked questions about whether or not he understood the words he was reading..."Oh Yea." "But, do you think the book is too big? Are you going to read it all?" Well, sure, but it may take some time." The kid thinks about it then settles for a book about JFK that is in much better condition and with a more aesthetic appeal...It was O'Reilly's book called; "Killing Kennedy." The 10 year old kid with a mop of red hair...assures his mother; "This book should be a lot easier..." Why," says she. "Cause it reads faster..." She rolls her eyes. He starts reading to her as she hastens to change the subject..."You haven't read that already, before have you?"
"No, Mom...but, I can read it too you in the car if you like?" On this - I said not a word.

...Made a mistake today - while watching my little tiny bit of GDP, in stasis, decorating the wrong bookshelves, listening to a noiseless lull in movement, inventorying a mountain of unmined treasure - welling - languishing - waiting for an affable treasure hunter...I reread...accidently..."Of Mice and men." Not a pleasant reminder of Depression era hopelessness...but amazing pace, scripting and symbolism of Depression era meaninglessness. I have had a dose. I wants no more! Come help me cast off this inertia! Buy a freaking Book!!!
