I’ve come to believe that the people drawn to small independent shops are looking for something more than things.
They’re curious souls. Wanderers. People who notice the little details.
They appreciate the imperfect, the handmade, the unusual and the thoughtfully chosen. They would rather discover something with a story than buy something everyone else already has.
They linger.
They pick things up. Ask questions. Notice the artwork on the wall, the scent of incense in the air, the old book tucked into a corner, the strange little object that somehow seems to be waiting just for them.
They understand that shopping small is personal.
Behind the counter is often the person who chose every object, painted the painting, arranged the window, swept the floor, worried about the bills and still opened the door that morning hoping someone wonderful might wander in.
In a world that increasingly tells us exactly what to buy, they still enjoy wandering through a little doorway and wondering…
What will I find today?
