Unfortunately, after long consideration and thought, Axel's Redemption Center will not be reopening and is closed permanently. This industry has been struggling for the past few years as the NYS Bottle Bill has not been updated since 2009. NYS has a very strict limit on the handling fee that our supplier can pay us per container, and we are required to pay at least 5 cents per container back to the customer. With that said, our handling fee has remained the same (at the maximum allowed by NYS) since we opened in 2011. This means that the revenue that comes into our facility has been unchanged since 2011, even though the costs of everything. Including labor, have more than doubled. Unlike with a store, where you can increase the price of goods to make up for expenses, we don't have that option in this industry since NYS sets the price we get payed (then it doesn't get updated for 14+ years🥴). This, on top of current issues with our supplier not picking up inventory and missing payments, it has made it impossible to continue keeping the doors open. This was not an easy decision, and we are very sad to have to say goodbye to Axel's. We thank everyone for their patronage over the years, this is an amazing little community, and we love being a part of it! Continue to patronize your local small businesses, New York State certainly does not help small business owners keep their doors open.
*We do have a couple customers who dropped off their containers prior to our closing that have not yet been paid, please call (607)343-3140 to arrange pick up of payment.
